Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Carol Wright
His years as star of the 1970s TV show Kung Fu obviously made an impression on David Carradine. In his new career as a fitness guru, he turns an ancient form of Chinese martial arts into a great exercise program. Known as Shaolin Kung Fu, it is based upon the natural movements of five animals. The Snake offers stretches and extensions. The Crane features balancing and swift kicks. The Panther's explosive punches and blocking drills help develop the arms, while the moves of the Tiger build strength and muscle definition. Cool down and relax with the Dragon's energy visualizations to finish the set. While many of the moves are dynamic, they are not performed with rapid-fire speed. This means that even a beginner can follow the movement patterns demonstrated by Carradine and students. Once you're proficient with the basic moves, try following the more energetic variations in the closing sequences. Despite the title, there's not much mention of cardio benefits, but the whole-body lunges and extensions are sure to work up a sweat.
