Debbie Does Dallas Uncovered

Overview

This DVD is an unexpectedly generous affair. The main feature is presented in a non-anamorphic letterboxed transfer; detail is a bit soft, but the overall image looks okay for a shot-on-video production. A simple Dolby stereo mix is used for the audio and it works well, delivering clear dialogue and making effective use of the film's faux porno-funk musical score.

Debbie Does Dallas Uncovered also offers an surprisingly expansive bonus feature in "Diary of a Porn Virgin," a documentary made for British television that tells the tale of two women who enter pornography at different ages and for different reasons. As one might expect, their experiences take them down divergent paths, each offering an interesting glimpse into how people respond to the demands of the adult-film business based on their particular mindsets. The end result is fascinating viewing -- in fact, it is arguably better than the disc's main feature itself. Thus, this disc of Debbie Does Dallas Uncovered is essentially a 2-for-1 deal, offering excellent value for viewers interested in this kind of subject matter.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide
Despite its title, Debbie Does Dallas Uncovered isn't the in-depth exposé that one might expect. The problem is that there isn't much story to tell; as many of the interview subjects admit, Debbie Does Dallas was a mediocre porn throwaway that got lucky because of its novel story hook and the presence of an attractive lead starlet. As a result, Debbie Does Dallas Uncovered has trouble sustaining its 47-minute length and has to incorporate a lot of side material that is barely connected to the main subject. For example, a lot of time is spent on the story of an undercover FBI agent who investigated porn and suffered a nervous breakdown -- it's interesting but has little-to-nothing to do with telling the story of Debbie Does Dallas. The documentary is further hurt by the fact that most of the people involved in making the film either weren't interested in talking or are no longer around. The few who do participate have some interesting things to say about the adult-film business but have few memories of the film that this documentary is supposed to be focusing on. Ultimately, Debbie Does Dallas Uncovered fails to live up to its name.
