Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
DVD digital versatile disk technology promises to change the world of CD-ROMsor at least make it much more unstable. DVDs do not have a single standard everyone is designing toward, but that isn't stopping all sorts of folks from producing hardware that may be useless in a year. If you are in the information business and making hardware purchases, you need this book just for background knowledge.

Excellent! The best DVD reference under $5,000

Not only is this the best book on DVD technical details, it is probably the only book that covers the subject so thoroughly. Because it was written in 1997, some of the details are out dated or not reviewed (ie DVD-Audio). Taylor gives an indepth look at the history, production, and encoding of DVD for experts and beginners. On the down side, Taylor gives an over-exhaustive explanation of aspect ratios, but on the whole the book is a wonderful resource. I'm looking forward to purchasing the second edition.
