    Good performance, with modern staging

Minimalist staging, costumes, etc.-- Musically, quite good. My opinion is that the staging for opera--which is a spectacle that combines music, acting, and theatre--should be consistent in all its aspects. The minimalist choreography and stage set, with all-black costumes, do not match the musical setting. Producers of opera must continually seek innovation, it is true. My opinion about this particular production is that the innovations do not enhance the original.
