For those of us who enjoy great music done in Jazz and Bosa Nova arraingments it is excellent. What a great musican Kiana Krall and her band are. The filming is done very well and think it was a very good location.
So GREAT that I felt I should have paid more money because I'll play and listen and watch it so often and fully expect to recapture the initial thrill of my "first time"! I realized that I had watched Diana Krall's "Paris" DVD more often than any other: it created its own welcome mood, but this is BETTER! Diana's jazz piano playing is more inventive, more mature, and here she is with four of the same great jazz musicians she treasures and shared with us in Paris, but here their talents are given more individual exposure and appreciation. You already know these songs of "Standards" are still with us because of their musical quality combined with memorable lyrics, but she and her 'team' offer not only new loving interpretations of pace and emphasis, both musically and word-feelings, but an additonal jazz inventiveness that is penetrating and thrilling. Plus a full stringed orchestra that is emotionally enhanced when, the moment Krall gifts her already enchanted Rio audience with their 'bossa nova', with the songs of Antonio Carlos Jobin and his "The 'Man' from Ipanema" that audience JOINS IN with quiet but obvious enthusiasm, enough to bring tears to Diana and her Bass player, and maybe YOU! NOTHING is stinted: with frequent views of Rio and its rolling waves and beaches, and a long, satisfying 'extra' with Krall. I was very tempted, in my enthusiasm, to e-mail Barnes and Noble to PUT A FULL PAGE NOTICE OUT SO PEOPLE WILL KNOW! Perhaps it won't please lovers of rock 'n roll as much as me, yet I can't imagine that melodies and meaningful words that have proven their wonder over so many years, won't still thrill you; I may value everything that includes Shostakovich to the Beatles, but THIS is a KEEPER!
Bought the Blu-Ray version and was stunned by both the music and video. Outstanding in all aspects -- traditional Diana Krall at her best. Also bought several DVD copies for friends. Hope DVD photography of concert and Rio are as good as Blu-Ray.
This is a gorgeous DVD. I love it. Very emotional.
Listening to Diana Krall on the radio cannot compare to the experience of seeing her, sing and play, on a DVD. Only surpassed by getting to attend one of her concerts. She is very talented and I recommend buying this DVD.
