Diary Of A Worm & More Great Animal Tales

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
One can't imagine more irresistible bait for budding readers than this delightful collection of short films based on popular picture books. Three were animated by Academy Award winner Gene Deitch, whose credits stretch back to Tom and Jerry cartoons. Doreen Cronin's award-winning "Diary of a Worm" is a series of clever comic vignettes that offer a very funny (and perhaps surprisingly familiar) anthropomorphized worm's-eye view of the world. Eve Titus's "Anatole" tells the charming story of a rodent who becomes "a credit to mouse and country" as the finest cheese taster in France. Jules Feiffer's award-winning "I Lost My Bear," narrated by his daughter, Halley, is a universal tale of anguish in which a young girl desperately searches the house for her precious stuffed animal. A live-action departure, "Frog Goes to Dinner," is a non-verbal (save for one well-chosen word) adaptation of Mercer Mayer's comic story about a boy who unleashes chaos at a fancy restaurant when he brings his pet frog along. Each captivating film is faithful to the look and text of its source material. This DVD also includes as an extra Margaret Mahy's "The Three-Legged Cat."
