Overview

The mystery of the 18-minute-gap in Richard Nixon's White House tapes -- and how it connects to the previously undocumented involvement of two teenage girls in the Watergate scandal -- is the subject of this political comedy. Betsy Jobs Kirsten Dunst and Arlene Lorenzo Michelle Williams are high school students and best friends living in Washington D.C. in 1972. Betsy is pretty and popular, while Arlene is cute but a bit awkward. Arlene is obsessed with singing star Bobby Sherman, but that comes to a halt when she and Betsy get lost during a school field trip to the White House. A chance encounter with Checkers the dog leads to the girls meeting President Richard M. Nixon himself Dan Hedaya. In Nixon, Arlene sees a strong, caring man who loves his dog, and she soon develops a furious crush on the president; Betsy is puzzled but remains supportive. Arlene's devotion to the president is rewarded when she and Betsy are named official White House dog walkers; however, when Arlene and Betsy discover that Nixon has a foul mouth and a short temper and, worst of all, kicks his dog, they realize that the President is not all he appears to be. And when they overhear Nixon ranting about Bob Woodward Will Ferrell and Carl Bernstein Bruce McCulloch, a pair of reporters from The Washington Post looking for dirt on the President, Arlene and Betsy decide that they're happy to help. Dick also features Dave Foley as Bob Haldeman, Harry Shearer as G. Gordon Liddy, and Ana Gasteyer as Rosemary Woods.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Seth Kaufman
Pushing adolescent japes into the unfamiliar corridors of power of Washington, D.C., Dick raises the bar for both political satires and teen movies. Powered by a simple premise, an outrageous script, and energetic performances, Dick spins the tale of two young and innocent Washington teens -- Betsy Kirsten Dunst and Arlene Michelle Williams from Dawson's Creek -- who become President Nixon's official dog walkers and stumble into the Watergate scandal. The duo exude an infectious, almost hysterical teen vibe as they obsess about "Dick." And when Arlene develops a crush on the crusty president played with canny verve by Dan Hedaya, it sets up a truly hilarious explanation for the infamous 18-minute blackout on Nixon's White House tapes. The film also provides a brilliant take on the genesis and identity of Deep Throat, while turning the legendary reporting team of Woodward and Bernstein into a pair of lucky, ambitious clowns. Director Andrew Fleming's reference-packed script is a wonderful ode to the '70s. But this terrific cast, led by two then-unknown actresses, drives his crazy plot home. The results are unimpeachable.

Fun- Even if you have no freaking clue about Watergate

This movie was funny and fun. Betsy and Arelen get a little too blonde sometimes but overall it was very amusing. Good to watch when you're having a girls night in, feeling dumb, or when you're feeling like a woman can't get ne where in life.

    Get ''Dick''

''Dick'' is easily one of the cutest, cleverest movies ever made. Kirsten Dunst & Michelle Williams are absolutely groovy as Betsy and Arlene; while Dave Foley, Bruce McCulloch, and Dan Hedeya give hilarious peformances. ''Dick'' is a great movie choice if you're after a good time.
