A teenage girl learns about love, adult responsibility, and how to do The Dirty Boogie in this romantic drama. In 1963, "Baby" Houseman (Jennifer Grey) is a 17-year-old spending the summer with her family at a resort hotel in the Catskills; she plans on being in the Peace Corps next summer, so this is expected to be her last summer as a carefree adolescent. Baby doesn't get along with her older sister, Lisa (Jane Brucker), and she's bored to tears by most of the older guests at the resort. However, one night Baby hears what sounds like a party going on in the employee's dormitory, and she pokes her head in to discover most of the hotel staff enjoying the sort of close dancing that would get you kicked out of the senior prom in no time flat. Baby is particularly struck by handsome Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze), a dancer in the resort's floor show, and falls head over heels in love, wanting to be near him. When Johnny's dance partner, Penny (Cynthia Rhodes), finds herself pregnant after a fling with one of the waiters, Baby volunteers to learn her steps and take her place; however, Baby's father, Dr. Jake Houseman (Jerry Orbach), will have none of it, convinced that Johnny is a low life and that his daughter is too young to understand her own feelings. Dirty Dancing was a surprise box-office hit, and the soundtrack album was an even bigger success, spawning several hit singles and inspiring a top-drawing concert tour featuring several of its artists.

First I must say I am a huge movie fan.I have been watching and buying movies" now mostly dvds" for around 20 years.I first saw dirty dancing when I was around 17 years old.At first I was really skeptical about sitting through a so called " chick Flick".But as the movie got going I really found myself engrossed in the story line.I must say the most memorable line that sticks out in my head for some reason is the line " nobody puts baby in a corner".And who can forget the outstanding dance sequence at the end.Dirty dancing came out in the era of over indulgence in the time of big hair and overspending but is set in a more simpler time gone and almost forgotten. A plus all the way.
It was the best movie I have evere seen! I have watched it at least 10 times. It never gets boring and the music is soo upbeat and fun. You fall head-over-heels for the bad boy Johnny, and you take a ride with Baby throught learning new things that are both hard and easy. It is an equsite masterpiece that will never be forgotten!
this is really one of the classic movies that is worth watching over and over again...
One of my all time favorites.
i watch this film every day before i go to bed, as i just can't help myself, i love this film sooooooo much, i like evrything about it but jonnie is just sooooooooooo cute and the way he dances oh my god. i would love if dirty dancing 2 came out.
THIS MOVIE IS ONE OF THE GREATIST MOVIES EVER MADE.PATRICK SWAYZE IS SOOOOO HOT.HE HAS THE LOOKS,HE HAS THE ATTITUDE,AND HE DEFINATELY HAS THE MOVES.I LOVE TO WATCH HIM DANCE,AND JENNIFER IS REALLY GREAT ALSO.THEY DO SO WELL TOGETHER.AND SHE IS ONE LUCKY LADY!!!IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THIS MOVIE GO GET IT NOW,I PROMISE YOU'LL ENJOY EVERY MINUIT OF IT.THEY SERIOSLY NEED TO MAKE A PART TWO,QUICKLY.
Oh my gosh the first time I watched Dirty Dancing I was about 8 years old. I've been in love with Johnny and Baby ever since!! The way they show Baby going through this milestone in her life, and how Johnny refuses to let Baby be ''put in a corner'' is how love should be. I love this movie and recommend it to anyone who dreams of a love like Johnny and Baby's.
what i film ive always loved dirty dancing, when i bought it yesterday ive never put it down. i love it there should be a sequel id love to see what they both did after the show
Yesterday was the first time I watched this movie and now I dont wanna stop watching it. I wanna watch it over and over. Jonnie and Baby make such a cute couple and Oh my Gosh Jonnie is soooooo cute!!
i have watched this movie ever since i was 3. i think it is the best movie ever made. the chemstry between johnny and baby is an everlasting love. My favorite scene in the movie is when baby first walks into the staff quarters and she sees the staff dirty dancing and also when johnny doesnt take the money from moe preston for extra dance lessons for his wife because it showed that he really started to care for baby, and the part i strongly disliked the most was whenever you heard lisa singing!!!
This movie was awsome! I loved all of the great old music and dancing! After i wachted it a couple of times I even bought the soundtrack( it was that good).
I loved dirty dancing for so many reasons some of which include the great acting, the excellent plot lines, and the view on the world during the 1960's in america. I think the movie personafied the changing times of america and how that era effects us today. I also love the dances and that is why I am going to do the dances with my best friend in my high school cafeteria with a boombox starting with 'Nobody puts baby in the corner' to the lift.
I think this film was fantastic... i fell in love with it the first time i watched it. I remember asking my mum to but it me over and over again and i was buzzing when she braught it home! Although it has been out for a long time i never get bored of it... i watched it yesterday!
Dirty Dancing has got to be the greatest movie ever made! It has great music, a great cast, and a great story line. It's the type of movie you can't get enough of - you can watch it over and over again... I highly recommend it to any person of any age!
I saw it for the first time when I was about 10 when my friend lent it to me. I watched it at least 10 times before I returned it.I loved the ending and all the dance scenes. I disliked the part where you heard her sister singing but the rest of the movie makes up for that.
I love this movie! I have watched since I was a child and know it by heart. But even though I know what will happen I enjoy every minute of it...especially Patrick! Don't pass this one up, you'll enjoy every minute of it...~Kate
It was tough - in a good way - to watch this all the way through. Patrick Swayze exuded such vulnerability, and he had a great presence in this movie. What a sorrow to have lost him. Jennifer Grey was perfectly cast as the shy young girl, who learns to dance and falls in love with the Swayze character. Great music, great dancing and an unforgettable film.
I can watch this movie over and over and over again. When the 17 year old Frances 'baby' housemann goes on a summerholiday with her parents and sister she had no idea that she is going to get the time of her life. The songs in the movie are so beautiful especially ''hungry eyes'' i fell in love with this song it's soooo beautiful. Baby and Johnnie are such a good couple. I watched this movie with hungry eyes
This was a wonderful movie about a young woman (played by Jennifer Grey) who learns the way of the world and has fun while learning to dance under the free spirit of Johnny Castle's character (played by Patrick Swayze). This movie really captured the natural dancing and acting talent that both Jennifer and Patrick have. I remember some time ago (it was either 2007 or 2008) when the E series channel featured a special on the characters from the "Dirty Dancing" movie. It mentioned about Jennifer Grey having had cosmetic surgery done. Admittedly, it is just my personal opinion but observing Jennifer's beauty in the movie made me think that it was unnecessary to alter her appearance. When I watched the movie I thought that she was naturally beautiful. Her and Patrick had strong chemistry on the screen as playing dancers who have a zest for life. This is a very fun dancing movie with many wonderful and uplifting songs such as "She's Like the Wind" (by the late great Patrick Swayze) and "Time of my life". Yes, this movie may be from the 80's but it is definitely a movie to watch and savor like you would your favorite popsicle that evokes good times and exciting times.
I love this movie, i'ts a classic movie which never will go out of time... I can see it 10 times a day and it goes better each time.
