    A kinder gentler Doc

    These movies, pilots for the show, are great entertainment, but the Doc we know and love/hate in the series is not quite who we meet here. The Doc in these movies is younger, nicer, and more human than the brilliant and icy Doc in the series. The village is much the same though, and the quirkiness of the locale and the locals is true to the series. Doc is labeled and scorned as an outsider in movie 1, and persecuted for supposed wrongdoings, never mind these doings started long before he came to Port Isaac. In movie 2 he's earned some respect as a transplanted local, and sets about running off developers who seek to buy and ruin a local estate he wants for his own home. Both films are warm and funny, though Doc is the only character familiar to us from the series.
