Traveling through space and time in his police box-shaped ship, TARDIS for Time And Relative Dimension In Space, the Doctor has been played by nine different actors and has found himself the main character of comic books, radios shows, novels, and feature films. The Robots of Death 1977 stars the fourth Doctor, Tom Baker, whose seven-year tenure 1974-81 proved to be the longest of any actor, and he is consequently the best-remembered and most recognizable interpreter of the role his uniquely fluffy coif no doubt contributes to his enduring appeal. Partly inspired by Isaac Asimov’s robot tales, the story goes as follows: On a distant desert planet, a lone mining vessel digs for minerals. With only a small crew of greed-driven humans to guide them, a large crew of robots runs the sand miner. When the TARDIS brings the Doctor and his leather-clad companion, Leela Louise Jameson, on board the mining vessel, the two find themselves to be the main suspects in the deaths of three crew members. With his woolen scarf dragging on the ground, the Doctor races against time to solve the mystery. Featured on the DVD edition of Robots of Death is a commentary track by writer Chris Boucher and producer Philip Hinchcliffe.

    Fourth Doctor: Tom Baker

    Tom Baker is one of my favorite doctors on Doctor Who. He is brilliant actor and his companions compliment him well. Robots of Death is entertaining and is one of my favorite episodes from the Tom Baker period. It is well known that the effects of the time period may not have been the greatest but the plot and excellent acting makes up for this fact. This particular episode does not have as "cheesy" effects as many of the episodes of the time usually has. I recommend this episode to avid doctor who fans. Leela is not my favorite companion of the doctor but better than some. This four part episode is sure to entertain new and old Doctor Who fans.
