Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Jeffrey Iorio
Before Ridley Scott’s Alien exposed the unspeakable horrors lurking in all corners of the universe, Sci-Fi’s best known time-traveler had already been-there, done-that. The Doctor Who classic Ark in Space originally aired in 1974 as a feature-length telefilm on the BBC and has long been a fan favorite. Tom Baker, the fourth and most popular Doctor Who, is launched into space on the TARDIS and arrives at an abandoned space station thousands of years in the future. There, he finds the last survivors of the human race, who are being held in cryogenic suspension. Much to the Doctor’s dismay, the Ark has been invaded by flesh-eating aliens, and the only option is to restart the station’s operational systems, thus endangering the TARDIS crew (and setting a terrifying plot in motion). At one point during Ark in Space, Baker observes, "It may be irrational of me, but humans are quite my favorite species." It’s this type of bemused detachment that endears Who to fans and make his adventures timeless.

For a feminist, Sara Jane sure whines a lot!

That is the biggest drawback to this story. On other fronts, the Restoration Team's work on the effects and models just blew me away! Too bad they couldn't do anything about how slow this story moves and how two-dimensional the station's crew are.
