"The Time Meddler" is a classic William Hartnell episode. Drawing on the show's early premise of engaging young viewers in history, it is set in England, 1066, where the Doctor quickly discovers that someone is interfering with history. And, for a change, it's not him! This episode is a little slow paced, with something approaching an Abbot and Costello routine developing out of the Doctor and his companions' attempts to locate each other. (For "Who's on first," substitute "'Who's in the village.' '--No, wait, now Who's in the Monastery!...'") However, despite a few short-comings, I have to say, this episode really stuck with me as a child. The Monk (the episode's resident "bad guy") is a great character, and I actually learned some history! I was probably one of the few seven-year-olds in Alabama who could explain the significance of the Norman invasion of England and give the date on which it occurred. I recommend this episode for any Doctor Who fan who appreciates the show's early episodes.
