Dog SoldiersDirector: Neil Marshall
British director Neil Marshall's directorial debut Dog Soldiers resurrects and embraces the low-budget horror-comedy. Sergeant Harry Wells (Sean Pertwee) leads a team of British soldiers on a routine expedition to the Scottish Highlands. The six men would rather be at home watching the game, but they are even more dismayed when a carcass lands on their campfire. The next morning, they happen upon a severely injured Captain Richard Ryan (Liam Cunningham) and the bloody remains of his squadron. Soon they are attacked by giant werewolf beasts and chased through the woods, only to be saved by zoologist Megan (Emma Cleasby), who explains some of the truth about the creatures. They all take refuge in an old farmhouse while the threat of the monsters looms increasingly heavy.

The first time I watched Dog Soldiers was late at night, and it was a good experience. It has enough thrills and chills to make you jump a couple times. It doesn't have much for a storyline, but i feel it doesn't really need one. It is a fun movie to watch, and is perfect for a night at home with a bowl of popcorn. The special effects are good, albeit the film overused gore a bit to much for my liking. Overall it was a good fun film, and much better than many other werewolf movies out there today.
Most of the time when I watch a movie with werewolves in it I find myself bored. This one though is so realistic that it even had me on the edge of my seat. I'm sure that anybody who likes movies with werewolves and military soldiers kicking butt is going to love this movie.
For once there is a modern werewolf film that doesn't rely heavily on CGI. The look of the werewolves in this film are great and very creepy. This movie definetly stays true to the sub-genre of werewolf flicks and does nothing wrong in it's execution especially considering the budget. Now, if only there were more lycanthropic charms like this in the world. Buy this and cherish it.
The movie will make your hair split my god the movie so many twist and turns it just kepps on getting better and better i really do recomand this to fans of all types of movies.
I personally love this film, for several reasons too, I like the fact there is very little CGI involved. Most things have to much CGI involved these days its hard to escape it and I am really starting to go off it all together so seeing a British (Yay) horror film, where I can understand the language, with little CGI in is a real bonus. I also really enjoyed the script, a relaxed well written script, which doesnt take that much understanding. Which means you can watch DOg Soldiers on a saturday ight with a big pack of beer and still be able to follow the plot line. The fight scenes are really well done too, with the characters reacting in a very human way, like running into a closet without question. Its the most human thing to do when your scared.... Anyway I sugest you try seeing the film for yourself.
This is a good 'B+' horror flick. The creatures in this movies are extremely lifelike and well created. Theres not much of a storyline but it is very suspenseful and worth recommending to others.
It's always interesting the different ideas and verison of monsters people have. Dog soldiers does just that with werewolfs. I want to say that this movie is a like a big budget indepedant movie. the cast is limited, you have an explosion, and the acting is good. The werewolfs are (I like to describe as) "Whitewolf" Werewolfs, where, in a transformed state, stand about 8-11 feet tall. The sespense is built more on the fear of catching a glimps of something big, ugly and mean, then trying to keep it from being in the same room. If you think about it, it is almost like Jaws. Not a bad movie, and the plot makes it seem more plausible. Soldiers in the middle of a traing/military game getting caught off gaurd explains setting. They have their mind set to the current task, then they get thrown in a complete different direction they are barely prepared for. I have 2 stars for funny, not cause I'm sick (up for debate), but because I'm a movie junkie. There is a soldier in the group name (I kid you not) Spoon. (Without spoiling anything) close to the end, we come across a line in the movie that was made famous in a different movie. I think it had something to do with a computer, sunglasses, and a pill. All and all, it is a good movie. Maybe even up there with Silver Bullet. If your a werewolf fan, or like horror movies that used the budget to create a monster rather than acting to a thing, you will like this movie. Before I go, intel shows that a sequal might be on the way. The story is to take place right after the first movie, like the first 2 Underworld movies (another werewolf(ish) movie, go figure). I believe the hold up is for good reason.. They want to shoot the movie during "Hunter's Moon", when the moon is full, close to the earth, and so bright you would see your shadow from the moonlight alone.
this is the best warwolf horror flick iv seen yet,the creators of this film have done a wonderfull job,i admite the gore aspect of the film was over done but the creatures are life like and the humans are more intouch with what we would nomally see,its hard to think that the film was a low budget film its spain tingleing and hair rising features will surly have you trying to hide under the covers for the fact that you dont know whats gona happen next, all and all a wonderfull 4 star film
I really enjoyed this movie. You see many of these movies with too many animated graphics and storylines that aren't followed but this one is exceptionally good. I like that it is a foreign/horror flick, you don't see too many of those with that combo. Plus, the choice of having military involved just proves that it's not just 'regular' people who can bump into a werewolf. It was a great movie and I give it an A.
I thought this movie was pretty good in my opinion. there are some parts that bored me. and a pretty stupid scene a little bit after they find the SF team torn up(don't want to give any scenes away). But besides that, this movie was awesome. Britain did an outstanding job with this movie. I can't wait for part 2 to come out(if the rumor is true). The movie is worth a check.
i kept seeing bits of this whenever it was on tv and finally got a chance to see the WHOLE thing on scifi and enjoyed it. its my brother's favorite movie and also mine. basically you have soldiers the woods, a house and the full moon and together with enemies. awkward! it had a good story and didn't falter as such with other horror films and didn't have scenes that weren't needed. a plus in my book when it comes to good movies. and not the whole overrated crap either. a movie that works on its own and just wants to scare us which is does and wish movies were like this than how its today. i know not all movies etc are like that.
