Door to Door is the inspirational true story of a man who refused to let severe physical debilitation get in the way of his life's goal. William H. Macy (who also co-wrote the script) stars as Bill Porter, a Portland, OR, native born with cerebral palsy. Overview

Door to Door is the inspirational true story of a man who refused to let severe physical debilitation get in the way of his life's goal. William H. Macy (who also co-wrote the script) stars as Bill Porter, a Portland, OR, native born with cerebral palsy. Despite his spastic walk and oddly shaped countenance, Bill intends to succeed in life on ability rather than the pity of the unafflicted. Thus, in 1955, he manages to land a job as a door-to-door salesman for the Watkins Company. At first, Bill meets with nothing but slammed doors, hostile dogs, and unashamed hostility from "normal" people; but after making his first sale to a reclusive alcoholic named Gladys (Kathy Baker), there is literally no stopping him. For next 40 years, Bill walks some eight to ten miles per day plying his trade, winning one "salesman of the year" award after another. Also in the cast is Helen Mirren as Bill's supportive but aphasic mother, and Kyra Sedgwick as Bill's young assistant, Shelley, whose Herculean efforts to get the hero to "modernize" his tried-and-true methods invariably come a cropper. Door to Door debuted July 14, 2002, over the TNT cable network.

Powerful, very moving...3 tissue box movie! Sniff!!

This movie should be seen by the entrie family! It is a sensational movie that will warm your heart and make you take a step back and evaluate your own life and priorities!!! William H. Macy should have been revered for his acting in this very touching movie about an impaired man trying to show the world he's as good as any one of them! Remember this is about a real life man and his struggles and triumphs. He brings a sort of clarity to your life that you didn't realize had been missing until you find it!!!

Moving (that means you're gonna cry) and Very Inspirational!

We're really not sure where we heard about this movie. But we are so very glad we did! You WILL fall in love with Bill Porter. My wife and I could not find the right words after we watched this. It has made us better people. After watching the movie, we went to his web site and saw a picture of the real guy - looks just like the Macey character - and were inspired even further. One of Bill's words of wisdom goes something like this, 'Find out what your limits are - and then exceed them.' Mr. Porter, thank you for sharing your life with us. We will live better lives. Because of you.

    WOWIE!!

What an amazing film! I first watched Door to Door while on holiday in the US. It is an amazing film and deserves alot more credit than it has deserved. Unfortunatly the film isn't available here in the UK so i am desperate to find somewhere where i can buy it.

    WOW

I have never felt so uplifted and inspired as I did after watching this movie. I watch it at least once a week and have given it to people as gifts. William Macy is incredable and deserves so much more recognition than he has gotten. Watch it once and I guarantee that you will watch it over and over again.

I Usually Don't Write Reviews, But...

..this movie, having been overlooked by the critics deserves to be lauded. William H. Macy was genius in this film. It was one of those sleepers that I discovered on a Saturday night at the video store when all the thoroughly hyped movies had been sold out. It was so good, it ended before I even thought about making popcorn.

This is a very underrated movie, inspiring and entertaining

William H. Macy is incredible in this movie, his best yet. I agree that Hollywood has missed out on this one. I don't understand why this movie is not more visible.

    GREAT SELL!!!

THIS WAS AN EXCELLENT MOVIE. BILL PORTER'S STORY IS INSPIRATIONAL. THE ACTORS WERE ON TASK. WILLIAM H. MACY WORKED HIS BUTT OFF IN A ROLE THAT WAS (ARE YOU SURPRISED-HOLLYWOOD BASICALLY SUCKS) COMPLETELY IGNORED BY THE AWARDIST ELITE. ALL THOSE OVERPAID, UNDERFED UNDEREDUCATED HOLLYWOOD TYPES HAVE A HARD TIME RECOGNIZING ''ACTING'' WHEN THEY SEE IT. WHAT-NO PILATES??? ANYWAY GREAT MOVIE. EXCELLENT WRITING EXCELLENT ACTING. I AM INSPIRED BY BILL PORTER. TWO THUMBS WAY WAY UP.
