Overview

Four men are changed forever by an act of mercy -- changes which have a profound impact many years later -- in this blend of horror and science fiction based on a novel by Stephen King. Jonesy Damian Lewis, Henry Thomas Jane, Pete Timothy Olyphant, and Beaver Jason Lee were four friends who, as schoolboys, rescued a boy with Down's Syndrome, Duddits Donnie Wahlberg, from a savage beating at the hands of bullies. Their experience with Duddits left the boys profoundly changed, as they discovered they had developed psychic powers which allowed them to wordlessly communicate with one another, read the minds of others, and see events in the future. The four remained close friends into adulthood, and meet every year for a weekend get-together at a remote hunting lodge. However, one year Jonsey is approached by the spirit of Duddits, which leads him into a severe auto accident, though his wounds heal with mysterious speed and are gone by the time he and the guys get together a few months later. As the guys drink and swap stories, a desperately ill hunter makes his way into the cabin, whose body has become the host for a horrible wormlike creature, which breaks free and soon goes on a killing spree, leaving only Henry alive. In the wake of this attack comes a massive snowstorm, and Henry learns that these events are the first signs of a major attack by a powerful alien force which can assume any form it wishes. As duplicitous military leader Col. Abraham Curtis Morgan Freeman comes in to quell the menace, Henry finds himself in communication with the late Jonsey, whose previous near-death experience gives him an unexpected advantage in stemming the alien tide.

    I Also Recommend:

Not the best movie adaptation of a Stephen King book

The book, rather than the movie is as is most often the case, better. Some things come off as silly in the movie, whereas in the book they did not. The cast was excellent, all but for Morgan Freeman. He is one of my favorite actors but if you are trying to remain true to the story, he was badly cast. The visuals were amazing. I have seen most all of the movies adapted from Stephen King's books and would say this one is probably ranked as the 10th most favorite. The best would have to be The Stand, a made for TV movie that would have been impossible to do justice to in the theatre. I'd like to see Stephen King write a screenplay for Bag of Bones. It would have to be for TV, as it would not be served well done for the "big screen"

Cool---you can tell it's Stephen King.

Very good if youre a Stephen King nut like myself. They could have made the actual alien cooler looking though and the scenes that had Morgan Freeman bored me.

    Not too good.

I've love all things Stephen King, both books and movies, so when I saw this DVD for sale at my local video store I thought I couldn't go wrong. Never before had I been disapointed in a flick with ''Stephen King'' in the title. Maybe it was becuase I had not read Dreamcatcher prior to watching the movie, but I thought this was a joke of a film. The opening was great, it sucked me in and I was feel'n the movie. But then the after the first character dies, it just gets cheesy. The ending is horrible, and I'd only watch it again to laugh at it. I'd recommed to anyone wishing to buy it to watch it first.

Attack of the Killer Slug Monsters

I have seen some bad King novels turned movie, but this is one of the worst. For those that have truely read the book, they will notice that the movie begans similarly, but quickly moves of course. I thought that the movie would be better that the screenwriters was William Goldman (wrote the screen play for Mercy), but I was wrong.

    a waste of time

A good cast and good director typically leads to a good movie...typically. The characters were very unrealistic. With all these amazing things going on around them, no one ever seemed to be worried or confused.
