This disc is yet another example of the rubber-stamp policy Warner Bros. employed while turning out its initial line of discs when they first joined the DVD market. The only features present are the theatrical trailer and text-based production notes. To boot, this is a pan-and-scan version of the film; one does not even have the ability to flip the disc for the widescreen version. In its defense, the image quality is still far superior to any version previously available, and that's a worthy consideration for a film that relies so heavily on carefully crafted close-up shots of its principal actors. Most of the graininess has been removed from the image and there is no digital artifacting to speak of. There are two language tracks present, English and French, both of which are presented in a rather mediocre non-digital 2.0, but the dialogue is always sharp and clear regardless. Overall, Driving Miss Daisy is a wonderful film and a worthy addition to any collection, but those looking for a lot of supplemental features would do well to look elsewhere.

Driving Miss Daisy succeeds because of great performances from Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman and because of Alfred Uhry's excellent script, adapted from his Pulitzer Prize-winning stage play. The film scores high marks for its cultural details of life in the Southern United States, and the changes that take place over the story's 25 years. The film's major themes touch on universal issues -- growing older, overcoming racial prejudice, and the importance of friendship. While the film won four Oscars, including Best Picture, director Bruce Beresford was shut out of the nominations list. His career went into a severe decline for the next decade, until he delivered a surprise hit in 1999 with Double Jeopardy.

    Great Movie

    I loved this movie. Freeman, Tandy and Ackroyd were fantastic. The racial stuff from the time period does not bother me as it is part of history which we cannot deny. Morgan Freeman's character was conveyed with much dignity.

    A True Classic!

    This is one of the best movies of all-time. The acting was great and the love the two characters had for each other gives you that feel good feeling after seeing a really great movie. Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman were both great. All the actors were great and really brought the movie together. I can watch it over and over again... that's when you know it's a classic!

    Aging Gracefully

    Morgan Freeman is at his best in this highly emotional tear-jerker,yes, even for men. It is about the politics of the personal as Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman grow as friends and in age and learn about themselves that they could not have learned without each other.
