Overview

Now known as the film which propelled both Jim Carrey and the Farrelly brothers to superstardom, Dumb and Dumber was the first in an ever-growing line of gross-out comedies. Unlike the brothers' recent Me, Myself and Irene DVD, which was packed to the gills with extras, Dumb and Dumber comes up short. But this lofty distinction does not keep it from getting a rather sparse treatment on DVD. Unlike the brothers' recent Me, Myself and Irene DVD, which was packed to the gills with extras, Dumb and Dumber comes up short. The picture is a widescreen anamorphic transfer and presented in its original 1.85:1 aspect ratio (a full-screen version is on the other side). The sound is a clear Dolby Digital 5.1 and is used to good effect in certain sequences. Extras, however, are almost non-existent. There are two trailers -- one domestic and one international, a photo gallery, and the standard cast and crew bios. There's no doubt that Dumb and Dumber is well worth owning, but fans of the film craving more may want to hold out for a special edition.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Ed Hulse
When the dunderheaded duo of Lloyd Christmas Jim Carrey and Harry Dunne Jeff Daniels first arrived on the big screen during the 1994 holiday season, their lovably lame-brained antics helped make this comedy an unexpected hit. It also instantly turned sibling filmmakers Peter and Bobby Farrelly into hot Hollywood comedy commodities. This new Unrated Edition adds more than ten minutes of heretofore unseen footage to the film and additionally presents as extras two alternate endings and nine deleted and/or alternate scenes. As the story opens, Lloyd is working as a limo driver who takes wealthy, beautiful Mary Swanson Lauren Holly to the local airport. When she leaves her briefcase in the terminal, he retrieves it and, accompanied by Harry, drives cross-country to Aspen to return it to her personally. What they don't know is that the briefcase, bulging with cash, was deliberately left behind by Mary as a ransom payment to the kidnappers of her husband. Dumb and Dumber is exactly what its title suggests -- a goofball comedy with zero pretension to high art. Carrey's brand of rubber-faced, loose-limbed physical comedy is well deployed here, but what's still surprising is how closely Daniels keeps up with his more facile costar. The two of them work extremely well together, and Holly -- at that time, Carrey's girlfriend -- makes a charming foil. No doubt you've seen this film already, perhaps numerous times, in various TV airings. But the extra footage on the 2006 Unrated DVD edition -- including 40-plus minutes worth of deleted and alternate scenes -- is definitely worth an upgrade for Lloyd and Harry fans.
All Movie Guide
No one can accuse Dumb and Dumber of holding anything back: If you're going to make a slapstick movie that includes giving a dead bird to a blind kid, you might as well do it right. The movie cemented Jim Carrey's status as a full-fledged Hollywood star; the enthusiastic Jeff Daniels is perfect in the role of his amiable companion. Brothers Peter Farrelly and Bobby Farrelly concoct truly memorable, laugh-out-loud comic moments. As with the brothers' infamously funny There's Something About Mary (1998), Dumb has something of a heart beneath all the silliness and laxative jokes. Their scattershot approach to comedy produces more than a few misses, but for crude, unabashed slapstick fun, Dumb and Dumber will not disappoint.

    Cute!

Dumb and Dumber is a cute comedy movie starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels as two dumb guys and I enjoyed watching it. Perhaps not Carrey's funniest but still provides some good laughs.

Not As Funny As Ace Ventura Pet Detective But Still Good!

Dumb and Dumber is not as good as Ace Ventura Pet Detective, The Mask or The Truman Show but it is funny and the best scenes are when Jim Carrey's and Jeff Daniels' characters are on the road and when Jeff Daniels' character meets Lauren Holly's character and goes skiing with her and uses the toilet in the guest bathroom in her house not knowing that the toilet is broken and won't flush.

    Mock-YEA! Ing-YEA! Bird-YEA!

YEA! This movie was really good. It was so funny, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels made a great team for this film. The Farrelly Brothers make awesome movies, time and time again. This movie is so good because, for me, I seem to know people kind of like that. There are plenty of funny one-liners and it's really funny the way they interpret one another. The funniest part to me has to be when he's leaving the bar waiting for Mary, just watch for it, it's hilarious.

Some Like It Hot of the ninties.

Excellent funny buddy comedy tha as I said is like ''Some Like It Hot''. Both films have very similer plots and both involve idiots who are being chased by criminals. There are quite a few great scenes in this movie like the infamous ''Toilot Scene'' and the dream sequence that lets you look into the mind of an idiot.
