Good movie, but what about the books

If you have never read the books I would definitely recommend seeing the movie. It is one of the better Scifi releases. However, if you have already read the books the movie is a terrible disapointment. The only similarities are the names and even those are twisted around. A few random events strung together do not tell the same story as the books do.

Why did Le Guin let them make this?

Along with LOTR, Ursula K. Le Guin's Earthsea cycle ranks among one of the greatest fantasy epics ever written. If you have ever read the books, you will brain will twist in absolute agony upon seeing this movie. I found myself shouting out in abject terror every 15 seconds or less because of how much the story adaptain bothered me. If you have not read the books, get them and read them instead of watching this movie unless you want to waste a few hours of your life. Why is this TV adaptation such a monstrosoty? For one, it totally destroys the plot and characters set out in Le Guin's books--it does not even come close to representing the story; this film simply took the characters names and put them together in a land called Earthsea with a whole new story line. As if the mutated story was not enough, the CGI is sometimes of poor quality and the acting leaves something to be desired. If I could give no stars, this movie would definately rate it.

    A Wonderful Journey!

I originally thought its production would be along the lines of Dungeons & Dragons, a nice little fantasy romp but without much substance. Boy, was I wrong! This is a full-blown series, with a well-developed storyline, great acting, and awesome visual effects. I found it to be very entertaining and highly recommend it!

    Great Stuff!!

I watched this movie first with my brother, and I really liked it. It has just the right combination of terror and humor, and a twisting plot that keeps you in hopeful suspense. I am just reading Le Guin's books, and I must admit they are nothing like eachother. But the movie, as just a movie, is very good

    Great for Fantacy Lovers!

The story follows that good will always triumph over evil forces, and it has a remarkable tale of a young soul growing into an adult.
