This was not only Elvis' comeback, but also his first-ever TV special. Originally telecast December 3, 1968, the 60-minute songfest begins with Elvis offering a medley of his old hits: "Heartbreak Hotel," "Hound Dog," "All Shook Up," "Jailhouse Rock," "Love Me Tender," etc. In honor of the Yuletide season, Presley also croons "Blue Christmas." Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Greg Fagan
History plays odd tricks on Kings, and the video renaming of this classic production -- originally telecast December 3, 1968, as simply Elvis -- has forever painted Presley's performance here as that of an underdog. At the time, Presley was a rock-'n'-roll memory. He labored in an increasingly hokey Hollywood career while the '60s British invasion, garage rock, and psychedelic movements made his hip-swiveling '50s persona seem woefully uncool. But just as Presley's appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show heralded his arrival as a huge star a decade earlier, the '68 Comeback Special reestablished his position as rock royalty. A bit fleshed out from its original TV length -- the original hour now runs 73 minutes -- it features Presley in various settings, from a leather-jacketed troubadour with a small combo to full-blown big-band frontman in a sharp, white suit. It is a tune-filled command performance by an artist who perhaps wasn't so much coming back as he was restaking a claim to a title that was rightfully his: the world's first rock star.

Elvis USED to be a rock legend.

Elvis's original material was what made him Elvis. I saw him in one of his last concerts and I was just SICKENED. I was young and saved up money for 6 months to afford a ticket, and when i got there i was horrified. Nothing but a fat slob doped on up drugs stumbling around stage. This DVD does have some good extras and if you never witnessed Elvis at his worst, you would probably recommend this DVD to all your friends. So enjoy :"
