Emergency! - Season 5

( 7 )

Overview

Most of the familiar Emergency! characters are still on staff as the series enters its fifth season on NBC. The one noteworthy exception is Boots, the canine mascot of L.A. Country Paramedic Squad 51. But worry not: the firefighters quickly adopt a new dog, named Henry in honor of the squad's skipper, Captain Hank Stanley Michael Norell.

The season opens with the series' first two-part episode, "The Wedworth Townsend Act, which dramatizes the launching of Los Angeles' first paramedic program in 1969. This two-parter has been removed from most of the series' syndicated packages. Other season four episodes are more in keeping with the established Emergency! formula: paramedic Gage Randolph Mantooth falls in love with a stewardess whom he met during a standard rescue mission; a man tumbles into a vat of sulphur trioxide; the paramedics lose a heart attack victim due to faulty equipment; a master chef inadvertently sets his kitchen on fire; legendary DJ Wolfman Jack guests in an episode wherein Squad 51 tries to prepare for an inspection amidst a sea of crises; a cosmetician undergoes a bizarre personality change after ingesting too many diet pills; and Ramparts' Dr. Brackett Robert Horton becomes a patient himself when he is bitten by a rare and potentially poisonous fish. Although Emergency! was still performing admirably in the ratings, its producers including Jack Webb began to feel that the series had run its course, and thus intended to call it quits at the end of season five. In anticipation of this event, the series' Saturday-morning animated counterpart, Emergency + 4, was yanked from NBC's Saturday morning schedule -- prematurely as it turned out, since the producers changed their minds at the last minute and okayed a sixth season for the nighttime Emergency!.

    Emergency! season 5

In reading the review that is posted there are some things that need to be corrected. Dr. Kelly Brackett is played by Robert Fuller not Robert Horton. Who ever did the review does not know much about this series. In the episode where Johnny is at Station 8, the patient dies not from faulty equipment but from lack of equipment being there in time. The squad from 8's was on a nother run and not able to respond to this incident.

Season 5 has a lot to offer for the fan of the series. The bonus episode from Adam 12 is a plus. Wish the studio would produce clearer, cleaner DVD's but being a fan have waited long enough for it to be released

    I Also Recommend:

GREAT SHOW with real examples of what the early paramedics went through.

This show inspired me to work in the fire service when I was a kid and I worked as a firefighter/EMT for 12 years. At this point of the series, all 'relationships' are set in stone and the storylines explore lots of different issues in the service and in the characters' personal lives. As one reviewer wrote, it is interesting to see some big name/popular actors in little bit parts when they were just starting out or trying to get more exposure for themselves. This show did a lot to create and support paramedic programs across the country and LACFD shown as the leader in such programs as well as the contact point for questions and comments. If you like this show, you have to get this season too; they're all great.

    Emergency Season 5

I enjoyed seeing Season 5. The relationships are building and getting better. Also, I enjoyed the shows that had cameos of actors I see now.

    I Also Recommend:

    Emergancy season 5

I've always liked this series a lot. I'm glad it's finally coming out on DVD. For those who don't know, Emergency recounts the adventures of the men of Squad 51 of the L.A. County Fire Department. They're firemen-paramedics (this was in the '70s, before there were EMT's in ambulances). They have to rescue the victims from perilous situations, often before taking care of them medically. The series is very realistic and was filmed with the cooperation of the actual L.A. County Fire Department. You'll enjoy it very much. Get every season, and the new ones as they come out. I also recommend Dragnet and Adam-12.
