Emergency! Season Six

Overview

As originally aired on NBC on Saturday nights between January 1972 and September 1977, the popular drama series Emergency! bore a marked resemblance to the original Dragnet, with its semi-documentary approach to stories, and it's little wonder -- Jack Webb created the program through his Mark VII production shingle, merely two years after Dragnet wrapped. Episodes took place in the City of Angels, and followed the adventures of two collaborating teams of rescue workers: Squad 51 of the Los Angeles County Fire ...

Episodes took place in the City of Angels, and followed the adventures of two collaborating teams of rescue workers: Squad 51 of the Los Angeles County Fire Department's Paramedical Rescue Service, and the ER staff of L.A.'s Rampart General Hospital. Leading the fire department EMS squad were two heroic paramedics, Roy DeSoto Kevin Tighe and John Gage Randolph Mantooth. Episodes interwove suspenseful, tragic, and occasionally comic storylines involving the workers' attempts to save citizens, with a heightened emphasis on helping to free the endangered from precarious positions. This set from Universal offers the entire season-six run of Emergency! its final season, prior to a string of follow-up telemovies in 1978, with all of the episodes presented chronologically and back to back, as they originally aired. This particular season featured guest turns by then-unknown actresses Linda Gray and Joanna Kerns, fast on their way to television stardom.

Lots of action without the Drama!!

Emergency is the type of show which I call reality. It highlights the highs and lows, dangers and frustrations that firefighers/paramedicas have to endure. I love the action, which is 90% of the show and coupled with the mild drama and sometimes hilarious times, makes this show for all ages. The characters are easily taken in and you feel for them and with them, which is what some of these so called reality shows should learn from. I have all the DVD's possible and look forward to watching until I am old and gray, or until the disc fails. At that point I will buy more. Watch and enjoy!!!!

    I Also Recommend:

    Last Full Season!

This is Season 6, the last full season of Emergency. There were several TV-movies done afterward, but those haven't been released to DVD yet. (Hopefully they will be soon.) This year Roy and Johnny get out of L.A. several times (but don't you just HATE it when your vacation becomes work?). I like that the show acknowledges the passage of time--on a number of occasions the paramedics mention they've been at the job for five years. And Station 51's Captain Stanley is considering appling for Chief in one episode; in another, he's afraid he'll have to retire because of arthritis (which he turns out not to have, though it's never said exactly what it is he DOES have). The episodes are very enjoyable and worth watching again and again. The technology, procedures, etc. are of course dated (hey, the show IS 35+ years old!) but the drama and adventure are totally real and wouldn't be much different today. Buy all six seasons and spend a few weeks enjoying the action and adventures of real heroes!

    Another great season of Emergency

My husband and I were both born in 1969 and love this show as much as we did when we were young. But the best part is how much our 3 year old likes it. The program isn't over dramatic with their story lines. They do a good job showing the life of the firefighter and paramedic while on duty. And you can't beat the fashions of the 70's.
