That Brendan Fraser plays a Neanderthal in Encino Man is a good metaphor for this early stage of his comic career -- he's developed some of the physical and vocal patterns of his later success, but he clearly hasn't yet evolved. Having shown promise in School Ties that same year, Fraser is no doubt acting down to the level of the material, which requires mostly grunts and wild gesticulations from him. Retrofitting a caveman with skateboarder duds and teen lingo was an inevitable idea for a movie, but Encino Man isn't quite as moronic as a viewer might expect, given Pauly Shore's involvement. At the center of either his own TV show or star vehicle, Shore is intolerable, but with less of the movie to carry, his grating schtick induces fewer groans. Aiming for the same audience as Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, and using the same Southern California high school setting and fish-out-of-water/time themes, Encino Man occasionally rises to the level of a harmless, guilty pleasure. Fraser's physical comedy warrants some laughs, and the writing earns the odd grin now and again. Hearty thanks also go to Sean Astin for offsetting some of Shore's antics. Still, this bone-headed outing is much better suited to high school boys fluent in Shore's dated dudespeak.

    Amazing Movie

    In my opinion this is a great movie and definitely worth watching. It starts out with Dave (Sean Austin), and Stoney (Pauly Shore) digging in Dave's backyard and they find a frozen cave man. When the ice melts the cave man comes to life. Dave and Stoney give him a bath, some clothes and name him Link (Brendan Fraser). They take him to school, teach him manners, become friends and have a good time. The movie is full of laughs and great quotes to take away like "Hey Bud-dy" and "Weeze the ju-uice". Their mannerisms and the way they speak and even just the words they choose make the movie very funny.
    There is no way that anyone can watch this movie and not laugh. The concept grabs people's attention. It is a classic, not many other movies resemble this one. If you have not seen this movie then I greatly recommend it. It is at least worth a watch. I would say that any teenager would be able to relate to it. I say this because even though it was made many years ago, it still talks about the same problems that teens go through now like making friends, being popular and going through high school. I would also say that this is a good movie for college students. Anything is a good break from all the work but this movie is easy to get very into, gives many good laughs and makes you think to not take everything so seriously.
    Strangely enough in this movie there is actually a difference between the VHS tape and DVD. In the DVD version, a part of the movie is left out. In the scene where Dave and Stoney are teaching Link how to fight, at the end of the scene, Stoney says "Ow, my pancreas!" For this reason I would suggest that you get the VHS version if possible. That line is pretty much the only think that makes that scene funny and it is a shame that it was left out of the newer version. If you do not mind a line cut out of the DVD version, it also has its advantages. The DVD version came out in 2000 and has bonus materials like a production featurette, theatrical trailer, and film recommendations. What I like most about this movie is all the memorable quotes. If seen with friends there is no way that anyone will walk away from watching this and not be repeating the lines and laughing. That is just the effect this movie has on people and I really like that. From the movies I have seen none have had that effect on me besides Encino Man. When I watch this movie it makes me feel more care free and just want to live life and have fun; just forget about the little things. I think if a movie can have that impact on someone then it is a positive thing. If you have seen this movie already and agree with me that it is very good then I would suggest watching it again. I have watched it many times and wish there were more movies like Encino Man out there. I definitely give this movie two thumbs up.

    Can You say Buuf? Weeize The Juice!!!

    This is the funniest movie to watch It has Sean Astion and Pauly Shoore Two guys from Encino find a caveman in Dave's backyared They figure that the caveman can help them become cool They give him a bath a name him Link My encino man quotes Weeze the juice!!! The cheese is old and moldy Where is the bathroom? and Oww Buddy!!!! Weasel Weasl Weasel!!!! Encion Man rocks!!!

    Wease a little juice!

    This movie was hilarious with Pauly Shore, Brendan Fraiser, Sean Aston. i give this movie three thumbs up!

    It Was A Great Movie Weasel!

    Pauly Shore, Sean Astin, and Brendan Frasier bring their A-game to this box office failure. This has to be one of the most underated movies in the teen comedy genre. An instant classic, this movie has it all!

    Great Movie

    This movie lets us see how dumb we actually talked back in the day. It's a great movie to watch for a break from homework and friends. It's a wonderful movie for everyone!

    Very Funny

    This movie I found to be very cute. It was funny and Brendan Fraser is just drop dead gorgous in the role of Link so I recommend you see it. I laughed so much when I saw this movie, it's really really good.

    A good way to relax

    I think that Encino Man is a good movie for the mind weary college students. It gives us a good break from thinking to hard and lets us just relax

    Save Your Money & Time

    This is the crossroads where a stupid idea meets a bad script and bad acting. ''Encino Man'' is guaranteed to delight viewers with an I.Q. of about three on a good day. Life's too short to waste 88 minutes on this shallow excuse for comedy. Save your bucks and your time -- do something more entertaining, like maybe floss your teeth!
