Literally, in the modern world, there is no such thing as privacy when somebody like the NSA, The CIA or the FBI (or Bush) decides you don't deserve it. Jon Voight's character certainly got this across. Devoid of any feeling, the corrupt agent stops at nothing to destroy those that would harm his career, including a Senator and then the devoted family man Will Smith. I thought Tony Scott's approach towards Will Smith's character was reminiscent of Hitchcock in that he made more than just a little boring suburban husband, happilly married with a kid and a lawyer and firmly in the middle class. Instead, he made him more dynamic, a little more complicated, a little darker, and cunning than his presumed role would make us believe. Gene Hackman is predictably good.

ENEMY OF THE STATE, is one of those movies that have: CHARACTER, STRUCTURE, DEVELOPMENT, with lots of PLOTTING AND PACING. This is a excellent, wonderful, exciting movie.

Will Smith has done it again making a thriller movie through the years, this one is the best. Should not be rated R though. Only bad language is used and nothing else. Good movie though.
