Love the Book...Maybe...Never Read the Book...Yes

I read Eragon when it came out several years ago, and loved it. I read its sequel Eldest when it came out, and have enjoyed it as well. So needless to say when it was announced that Eragon was being made into a motion picture, I was excited. Further more as you can imagine I was one of those crazy people anxiously waiting for the film to hit theaters and saw it opening night. Now as I have read Eragon and Eldest several times (and am eagerly looking forward to reading the final installment) the movie was a let down. It was rushed in some places, acting was rather stiff (such a shame with amazing actors such as Dijmon Hounsou, Jeremy Irons, John Malkovich, and Rachel Weisz.), and the important sub plots that would allow the film to branch out into the Eldest movie were dropped completely (Ronan's love for Katrina and Sloan's disaproval). But alas through all the goofs I went to see the movie a second time with my younger sister, who had not read the book, and with her youthful excitement and ignorance to the novel's sub plot drops, and skewered plotline, I found myself enjoying the fantasy of Eragon and his cliche uttering dragon, Saphira. I went as far as seeing the movie a total of four times in theaters, each time with a different friend or family member, and each time I found myself continually enjoying the new story line, and actually had to reread the book, so I ould COMPLETELY seperate the movie from the book. The movie, I must admit, is very addicting even though it suffers from cardboard acting, an odd script, a rushed plot, and plot drops, that I owuld go as far as comparing it to the two Harry Potter movies that started it all, Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets. Because of you remember they were poorly acted, had weird script lines, seemed at times rushed, and there were severe changes and plot drops, and yet people loved them! Harry Potter movies 1 & 2 are my least favorite, compared to the following two movies, but are rather additcing as I find myself wanting to watch them over and over again when ever I can. Eragon is the same way. Give this movie a chance and you'll find that it will be somewhat worth the time. If you feel the urge to only rent the movie, do so, but for the ignorant movie watchers, enjoy the movie, read the book, then watch the movie again.

You have got to watch

It may not be anything like the book but the purpose is to entertain us and this movie did its job. It is in fact a great movie to watch! I can not wait until its out so i can buy this movie!

Good.... but only for those who haven't read the book

I must say that if you have never read the series, this is very enjoyable. The acting is good as well as the special effects. As a fan of the series though, I was expecting a lot out of this movie, and I was a bit disappointed. They got the majority of the plot points but left out crucial ones that would have to know if they were to make the next movies and others they failed to elaborate (Angela's scenes and the prophecy). Plus, Galbatorix, frequently shown in the movie was not even described to us until the last half of the fourth book. They left out Elva, who helps drive the series in book 2 to the end, and they got the location and death of Brom wrong while forgetting to introduce to us a main character: Orik and another important character Jeod.

Worst Film Ever Conceived By Humankind!

This was the worst waste of film ever created! It completely tarnished the original story because it changed the plot of the book, resulting in an absolute horrific abomination that will stain the reputation of the film industry forever. The script was very poorly edited and did not stick to the book's plot. The overall film was way too short and did not give the audience a prolonged sense of excitement that an average film would give. Also, John Malkovich did not give the best impression of being Galbatorix, who was considered to be the greatest evil in the whole series while the guy who played Durza gave a more convincing evil demeanor. The acting was also terrible despite the fact that the film had an all-star cast. They should completely redo the movie so that they get it right next time, but Mr. Paolini does not lift a finger to make the movie as it should have been. I would highly recommend the books, but not this movie.

Good movie...but the book is better

Just like most fans of the book...I was angry at how different the movie was than the book. To hammer home the point...a lot of sub-plots were either changed or deleted altogether. To a point, the similarities between the book and movie are a boy named Eragon and a dragon named Saphira.

However, if you can detatch yourself from the book and watch the movie for the movie it is pretty cool. Movies rarely - if ever - live up to their book, why should this one be different? If you want to "see" the book, then re-read it...I have - many times - and still enjoy it...but don't blame the movie. The movie is not the book and the book is not the movie.

DON'T WATCH IT

The acting was terrible, the plot was stupid, an they totally changed everything that was in the book. Well, except that there was a boy who rescues a dragon. Plus, Saphira looks somewhat like a giant blue chicken.
The book, however, is amazing. So just forget the movie, read the book.

The movie is OK if you haven't read the book

I saw the movie before I read the book. I thought it was a good movie. Good enough I would watch it again with a friend that hasn't seen it. Not good enough I would watch it again on my own. I recently purchased the book. All the time I was reading the book, I was thinking, "The names are the same, so it must be the right book, but I don't remember that in the movie!"
I don't think the movie totally sucks, but definitely deviates from the book. If you are expecting to see the book on film, you will be disappointed. If you just want to watch a nice Good v. Evil fantasy movie with Dragons, then you will probably enjoy this movie.

Do Not Watch If You Have Read The Book!!

For those who havn't watched the movie , but read the book, i would suggest never watching it. They completely destroyed Christopher Paolini's novel. For those who have not read the book, enjoy. <BR/>Examples of tearing apart-<BR/>* They completely cut out Katrina. <BR/>*Roran is suppose to leave so he can earn money so he can marry Katrina(did i mention they cut her out?), but instead they make it seem like he's leaving because he dosn't want to be recruited for the army.<BR/>*They only mention Horst once, when he actually plays a good bit in the beginning. <BR/>*Eragon is suppose to be injured by Sapjira's scales on his first flight. <BR/>*Where's Gertrude? <BR/>*Brom is suppose to be killed by the Razac, NOT DURZA! In the book, he does NOT go to Gil'ead. <BR/>*Eragon is suppose to be captured at Gil'ead and Murtagh is suppose to rescue him, but no. Oh mighty Eragon can do every thing by himself. <BR/>*Umm, excuse me, but Arya is suppose to be in a magic-indused coma. but nooo, she's up and walking around.<BR/>*People! Arya is an ELF! she needs pointed ears! in the movie she is apparenly human/elf. <BR/>*where's Orik?<BR/>*The big battle was okay, but they completely cut out Durza cutting Eragon's back and -arya and Saphira breaking the dwarf's rose. These to things play a major part in the second book. <BR/>*ARYA GOES TO ELLESMARA BY HERSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This part made me mad, Eragon is suppose to go with her to finish his trainning, but nooo! <BR/>THIS MOVIE STINKS!(only if you have read the book)<BR/>Please, do not see this if you love the book like i do. You will be disappointed!

Eragon Review

Eragon, by Christopher Paolini, is a very mythical but intriguing story about a boy who takes an epic journey of his life. This boy, Eragon, raises a dragon into becoming fierce and powerful. Eragon and his dragon, Sapphire, travel across the lands of Alagalsia to fight off the evil characters who opposed the king. Eragon and Sapphire are successful, taking on anyone evil in their path and annihilating them. I recommend this book to readers who like adventure and action. Although this book is very mythical, it has a strong plot which will mesmerize readers into continuing with the series.

This is one of the best movies i have ever seen

I was So pumped About going to see the movie but after I got out of the theater I was like why did I pay money to see that horrible addaptaion of the book. I love the books but don't waste a dime on the movie. YUCK!!!!!!!

Decent Fantasy Movie, Bad Novel Adaption

I'm a fan of the Eragon novel, and the Inheritance Cycle, but this movie was a horrible adaption to a great book. Sure the fighting is decent, and the visuals are pretty good, but that's about all. They changed way to much from the book, making it nearly impossible to make a good sequel. In my opinion they need to try making Eragon again, then get going with the rest of the series.

The movie was really good, by its self. If you look at the movie and the book as the same thing you will hate it. If the movie had been made completely ny its self without the book it would be better. It's true that very little of it follows the book. For ex. the fight in the end is TOTALLY different in the book. In the book it's only urgals that fight in the first one and the kings men don't come to fight 'til thw second book. You really have to look at the movie as a seperate thing. If you haven't read the books you'll probably think it's better, if you've read the books you'll have to look past everything. One thing that really bugged me, in the book at the end of the fight with the Urgals Murtagh, The twins &amp quot who aren't even included in the movie&amp quot , and Ajihad are ambushed. Ajihad dies and then Murtagh and the twins are thrown in a pit. So what now? None of that happened in the end.

Another dissapointment

I didnt like this movie at all!!!!! None of the characters look right.

YUCK!!!!!!!

I hated this movie! It was a complete insult to the fantastic book. I spent a whole year looking forward to the premier of this movie and it wasn't even PG-13. The story line just skipped all over the place, you could barley follow the plot, and it was set in a wrong setting. Eragon is not set in some primitive world of thatch huts that make up cities. They have actual buildings. It was such a gross interpretation that I could barley watch it. I can only hope that the people watching the movie don't think the books are anything like it because they are about 100 times better!!!!

What were they thinking???!!!

When I first saw this movie i thought it was great. I loved it so much that i decided to read the book. After I read the book I watched the movie again, and man did it SUCK!!! They miss so many main events it didn't even make sense, the characters were all wrong, and the acting was worse than my kindergarten graduation play. Lets not forget the ending, now they have to make a sequel even though nobodys going to watch it. And bcuz they missed so many events,the 2nd one wouldn't make any sense. I say they should just make a new one, and this time, for the love of god, plz, do it rite!!! If you look and the story line and characters of this movie and compare it to Lord of the Rings, all Eragon really is is a cheap attempted remake of Lord of the Rings. I think Chris Paolini and Peter Jackson should suit.

Great Movie

I love this movie! I have read the books and I know it is different from the book, but it was different from the book and the same thing in the book. I think people have their on opion, so it doesn't bother me that some people don't like the movie.
