Overview

John Cherry directs Jim Varney in the comedy Ernest Saves Christmas, which comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. There are no subtitles, but the soundtrack is closed-captioned. There are no supplemental materials of any consequence, making it quite difficult to recommend this Disney/Buena Vista release to anyone who is not an Ernest fan. There is little here for the average DVD consumer.

Yeah, yeah... it's an ''Ernest'' movie... but give it a chance. Get in the holiday spirit with this extremely light-hearted, delightful romp through the land of flying reindeer and dancing sugar plum fairies. The late Jim Varney does all of his unique characters while trying to save his favorite holiday. Some of his antics are genuinely hilarious. The supporting cast is very good and the story is what Christmas should be to all of us... the renewal of the innocence that Christmas brings to all of us. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I'm proud to admit it!

For lots of laughs, memorable scenes and an unforgettable story this movie is a great choice. From beginning to end, this movie is one of the BEST holiday movies ever made! This movie can get anybody into the Christmas spirit. Filled with magic, humor and heart this film may even bring a few tears to your eyes. I highly recommend it.

I love this movie. It is so funny and has such a sweet spiritual message for Christmas. We have been watching this movie every Christmas since it came out, back in the 1980's, I believe. A tradition for us. I had to purchase a new DVD because my old VHS cassette finally quit working. I have watched this movie so many times, I know all the lines. For new viewers, the best line, delivered by Jim Varney, is " air brakes." Watch it any time of the year for a good laugh and pick me up!.
