    Sentimental but Winning

Evelyn is the kind of film that is difficult to review. Many moments are about as subtle as a sledge hammer to right temple, but this story of a man who changed Irish law is so sentimental on its own, its difficult to fault the film for its occassionaly sacchrine qualities. True, the film is emotionally manipulative, but the actors and filmmakers have such affection for the story, it is difficult not to be charmed by the film's simple, triumphant resolution. The acting is uniformly fine, especially from Aidan Quinn and Pierce Brosnan, who used both this film and later film The Matador to demonstrate he is capably of far more than James Bond. In short, while the film is excessively heavy-handed at times, by the time the credits role, the simple, David vs. Goliath story should have you won over.

    great flick

Never heard of this film until my sister rented it. I really enjoyed it. If you like interesting plots about the law you'll like this one.

Stand-up and Cheer for Evelyn / Heartwarming

I watched Evelyn twice and one night. I loved every minute of it. It made me laugh, cry, and cheer. Curl up with someone you love and watch Evelyn. I'm sure you will agree, Evelyn is a winner. Based on a true story.
