Overview

Spend time with Ernest Hemingway, one of the most revered and respected American writers of all time, in this Famous Authors Series documentary about the Illinois native. Hemingway demonstrated his talent for the written word with stories from his foreign war correspondent experiences such as A Farewell to Arms, an ill-fated wartime love story between an American ambulance driver and an English nurse. His quintessential work, The Old Man and the Sea, was conceived upon his return from a trip to Cuba. After winning the Nobel Prize in literature in 1954, Hemingway never again wrote anything of significance because he spent all of his energy coping with his physical and emotional difficulties, eventually leading to his suicide in 1961. This documentary includes interviews, memoirs, and photographs that give viewers an inside look at Hemingway's life and writings. ~ Cecilia Cygnar
