Overview

Follow the career of 18th century Romantic poet William Wordsworth in this Famous Authors Series documentary. Known for his love of nature (in his home of England's Lake District), his humanitarianism, and his identification with the common people, Wordsworth translated these beliefs into his expressive poetry. He and his close friend and poetry colleague Samuel Coleridge pioneered the literary style known as English Romanticism and together published Lyrical Ballads, a collection of both poets' works. Among Wordsworth's most beloved poems are The Excursion and The Prelude. This documentary uses portraits, paintings, documents, maps, and other archival material to tell the story of this socially minded writer. ~ Cecilia Cygnar
