Overview

In honor of Fantasia's 60th anniversary, Disney released Fantasia 2000, an updated and revised version of the film with even more spectacular visual effects and music. Viewers can now see both these films, along with a painstaking behind-the-scenes look at their production, in the three-disc Fantasia Anthology collection. The two films themselves are rich, with well-produced visual menus and English and French captions, Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound, and detailed chapter selections that include narrated introductions to each short film and its music. A navigational booklet is also included for those interested in the updated version of the film. The most extraordinary special feature is the supplemental DVD, Fantasia Legacy, which offers a complete look at the inception and creation of these two visual and auditory masterpieces. All of this information may seem like too much to digest. Fortunately, the package includes a printed map that allows viewers to find their way easily through all the supplemental materials. The Fantasia Anthology is a must for Disney fans, classical music lovers, or anyone inspired by the process of creativity.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Tony Nigro
Just when you thought Disney's Fantasia couldn't get any more fantastic, the three-DVD Fantasia Anthology arrives with the original Fantasia and the recent IMAX release, Fantasia 2000, plus such extras as audio commentaries and making-of featurettes. Anthology lives up to its name with the third bonus disc, Fantasia Legacy, which is also chock-full of background lore, including storyboards, still frame galleries, original trailers, music history, and exclusive Walt Disney interviews the original ranks among his proudest creations. The perfect coda to this animated symphony is a featurette, "The Fantasia That Never Was," which focuses on deleted animation, alternate versions, abandoned concepts, and much more. Like Mickey laboring to control those pesky mops, trying to take everything in on this magical set is a classic challenge.
