Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Ed Hulse
Despite cancellation, cable TV's most sophisticated sci-fi series survives on DVD and VHS. Providing TV viewing at its finest and most obsessive, this 11-disc box set collects all 22 episodes from Farscape's 1999 debut season, which fans readily acknowledge to be the series' best. This handsomely designed compilation also provides appeal for recent converts, who can finally see the saga's beginning, in which Earth astronaut John Crichton, sucked through a wormhole in outer space, winds up on Moya, an interstellar craft that is also a living entity. That's where he meets several alien fugitives from a fascistic regime presided over by the Peacekeepers. Crichton becomes involved in the ongoing rebellion against the ruthless totalitarians, but in these episodes he also runs up against hostile aliens, evil sorcerers, and renegade scientists -- in short, a veritable cornucopia of sci-fi villains. Farscape's first-season episodes have a little bit of everything, from slam-bang space opera to thinly veiled allegory. They are also consistently well written, with feature-quality production values and fine acting from a talented cast that includes Ben Browder as Crichton, Claudia Black, Anthony Simcoe, Virginia Hey, and Jonathan Hardy. Small-screen sci-fi series often tend to become cheesy and puerile, but Farscape is notable for its intelligence, wit, and insight. Additionally, this collection includes footage not seen in North American cablecasts, along with commentary by cast members, conceptual artwork displays, still galleries, and Farscape screen savers.

    Fighter Pilots Be Proud!

Who ever thought or planned this show had to have been a fighter pilot, that when injured, spent LOTS of time watching t.v./movies.Every word seems like a tech manual or an after dog-fight bar talk.A major thrill ride (makes me feel I'm with them) with BRILLIANT acting.Nothing comes close.

    Now this is Sci-Fi!

In my opinion Farscape was the only good series that was on the Sci-Fi channel. Much better than Bableyawn 5 and Tremors:The Series. Unlike all other sci-fi series, this show had all the elements. Drama, action, love, adventure, etc. I cant really say what the others haven't already covered, but I no longer watch the Sci-fi channel because of their poor decision to kill this series. Anyone that ruins a good thing in favor of Tremors: The Series, of all things, needs to be fired and kicked in the balls.

Starwars, Star Trek, Babalon 5 and the Six Million Dollar Man all rolled into one.

Acting, characters, story lines, CGI, and effects are all excellent. It's like watching a high quality movie almost every time. A few episodes are hard to get into unless you're a diehard scifi fan. All of the core characters are easy to get to know and relate to.

    Farscape is Fantastic!

This is the BEST sci-fi series of all time, and one of the best (perhaps THE best) television series of any genre I have ever seen. Great acting, action, story-line and character development, and fabulous production values. I feel like I'm watching a big-screen movie each time I watch. I've purchased the Season One boxed set and am well on my way to acquiring all episodes. This is sci-fi for people who like their television intelligent, with characters you can actually relate to, who grow, change, and care about one another. Thought-provoking, funny, dramatic, addictive! It's appeal reaches even those who aren't sci-fi ''fans''. Can't recommend this series highly enough.

An awesome show, and your chance to own it

I've been with Farscape since the beginning, and I love it wholeheartedly. In my opinion, it's one of the best TV series ever produced, and certainly my favorite. I own this boxed set myself, and I watch the episodes over and over. The only drawback with the set is that the discs are very hard to get out of their cases, so open with care, and enjoy!

Saying Season One is the best isn't really accurate

Farscape's first season is truly wonderful and a must see, but it's a must see more for the roller coaster ride you'll get from the following three seasons. They just keep getting better and better. Buy this boxed set -- you'll be blown away!

The Henson Blood line does it again!

This is a must have for any Sci-Fi or Henson fan! Brian Henson takes his fathers dinesty and releases yet another smash hit that will live on in the minds of millions. Well directed and EXPERTLY Teched this series Leaves little doubt in my mind that we can expect more great things out of Brian Henson just as we saw out of his father.

    OUTSTANDING SCI-FI

Farscape is the by far the best Sci-Fi on TV. I can't say enough about the writing, acting and production quality of this show! Although made for television, Farscape has a feature film look to it. The sound and picture quality of the DVDs is superior to any I have seen. I can't wait to own all four seasons.

    BEST SERIES EVER CREATED!!!

Season one box set is an excellent investment in the best sci-fi series ever created! I can not wait for season 2! After you get this great set for yourself or a friend (this is the perfect gift idea for a fan or anyone interested in sci-fi), E-mail the sci-fi channel and tell them how much you love the series and ask them to continue it for a 5th season or sell it to another network who will, so there will be more seasons to come! This series has it all. excellent writers, directing, actors, and you can not say enough good things about the Jim Henson creations! Even if you have never seen this show before, buy this set and see what every one is talking about. There is a reason this show has won awards! Find out for yourself, you will be glad you did!

    Cancelled????

When did Sci-Fi cancel this fabulous show? Last i heard in January all new shows will be debuting. If Sci-Fi canceles this show then i would be left with no choice but too boycott the Sci-Fi channel. Nothing more can be said for this fabulous show, it should be re-newed and stay on the air, they should also bring back zan, what a gal....
