She tells her father that she is engaged to be married. When the shocked George asks to whom, she says his name is Bryan George Newbern and that he is an "independent communications consultant." George is even more shocked when he finds out what the wedding will cost when George goes through the card file for invited wedding guests and is told someone is deceased, George chirps, "He died? That's great!". As George is ignored during the mad preparations for the wedding, he wistfully looks back to all the good times he has had with Annie and sadly looks forward to the time when he loses his little girl.

The 4 star rating is just for the two films, not this dvd release. On the package it states that on Father of the Bride Part II there is an audio commentary with Steve Martin and Martin Short; this isn't actually a commentary, like the ones played over films. The so called "audio commentary" is a short featurette in which the two actors interview each other and show clips from the film. The films themselves are very good and hold up well, as does most of Steve Martin's work.

    I Also Recommend:

    A classic comedy!

Since seeing this movie for the first time when I was about ten, I have never forgotten it. It's one of those movies that you are nostalgic for; whenever it pops up on tv, even if you missed the beginning, you can't help but just sit there and watch it til it's over. And you know what happens, you remember some of those laugh-out-loud moments and you even remember the good times you've had watching it with family members, like you are probably doing as you are watching it now. You just can't help but look into their faces and smile, because that's the just the type of movie this is.

Steve Martin gives what I believe to be one of the best performances of his career. He plays George, a real "daddy's little girl" type dad. He is just dreading his daughters' wedding, but he is dreading it because he loves her so much and just doesn't want to lose her. Diane Keaton also shines as his down-to-earth wife who couldn't be more excited of course. And let's not forget Martin Short who plays the wedding planner- one of the funniest roles I have ever seen him in! You too will be rolling on the floor laughing as you see the gaffs George goes through to get this wedding done, from stealing hot dog buns to consoling his future son-in-law, you'll be laughing and maybe even tearing up the whole way through!
