Overview

This beautifully photographed documentary is Spanish-filmmaker Carlos Saura's tribute to the beauty and diversity of Spain's national dance. Using only the minimalist setting of an abandoned Seville train station and the costumes of more than 300 performers, this is a veritable feast of exciting flamenco dances, songs, and guitar playing. Some of the better known artists include Paco de Lucia, Manolo Sanlucar, and Lole Manuel. The film features little dialog, but the soundtrack is so terrific and the pageantry so...

    True Flamenco

Only someone who truly understands flamenco can appreciate this DVD. Initially it explains how flamenco came about and then it goes into the dance, the song, and the music. It's not a party movie, it's a serious and edgy piece of work. The songs are gritty and lamentful as most Flamenco is. If you didn't like this because you were expecting American Bandstand then you're not a true lover or connoisseur of what Flamenco really is. The music came first, then the song, then the dance. This tape is for those with the soul of a gypsy not the MTV generation expecting to be entertained with tricks and a lot of noise.

    Disappointing

We expected an enjoyable, joyful dance program. Instead we got a video where the music reminded os of a funeral wake. This one will remain on the shelf.
