Jennifer Beals stars in the 1983 hit dance drama Flashdance. Presented in its original 1.85:1 widescreen transfer with an anamorphic enhancement, the image on this disc looks good, if not great. The colors and black levels are all consistent and solid with only the slightest amount of edge enhancement in the image. Otherwise, this is a passable looking transfer that should please fans. The soundtrack is presented in a newly remixed Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround in English. While it's nice to have this soundtrack remastered in 5.1 (the pop songs are a wonder to hear through all of the speakers), overall there is often a jagged feeling in the effects with some being too loud and others appearing too soft. Also included on this disc is a Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround track in English, a Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo track in French, and Spanish and English subtitles. A lack of extra features won't get fans dancing in the streets -- Flashdance is a completely bare bones DVD.

All Movie Guide
The sleeper hit Flashdance had surprising crossover appeal for a movie that featured strippers and X-rated footsie under the dinner table. In part because of its soundtrack, which became a pop sensation on the strength of Irene Cara's "What a Feeling" and Michael Sembello's "Maniac," the R-rated Flashdance was seen by an untold number of viewers under 17. The glimpses of nudity may have been partly to blame, but more than that, the transformation of Alex Owens from blue-collar welder to legitimate ballet hopeful was the stuff of dreams for teenage girls. Factor in the subplot about a friend trying to make it in ice skating, and this film seems tailor made to be teen wish fulfillment, except for all the time it spends in the nudie bars. Flashdance turned Jennifer Beals into an overnight sensation, her tough cookie with sex appeal image quickly assuming iconic status. Its nearly 95-million-dollar domestic take, steadily buoyed by word-of-mouth during a months-long theatrical engagement, was almost unheard of for an R-rated movie, ranking it the third highest grosser of 1983. The project also became the first hit in the notorious careers of screenwriter Joe Eszterhas and producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer. The kind of film that's so aggressively formulaic that it bowls over any objections, Flashdance has become fodder for numerous parodies and spawned countless imitators. For whatever reason, it struck a chord, and indeed produced quite a feeling.

I'm from Pittsburgh so this one hit home plus it has lots of fabulous improv-dance. Fun story line... poor girl gets her dream and a good guy to boot! Great movie.

FLASHDANCE is one of my personal favorite movies. The music is outstanding and the choreography is excellent (even though Jennifer Beals was not responsable for any dancing in it - Marine Jahan was.) An excellent film that was like the film TITANIC of the 80's.

This is a really well done film in both the storyline and the way it is presented.Although Jennifer Beals did not do the dance portions of the film (Marine Jahan's uncredited dancing was very good),she puts in a great acting performance and helps to make the film as good as it is.The struggle to get to a goal that you wish to reach is very well put out in this film and is aided by strong hits like ''Maniac'' and the title track ''Flashdance--What A Feeling''.This was a great film when it came out and still holds up years later.GREAT FOR ANY MUSIC AND FILM COLLECTIONS
