Fly / Return of the Fly

Overview

What's better than one fly movie on a single DVD? The answer, according to 20th Century Fox, is two. The Fly, the story of a science experiment gone horribly wrong, stars Vincent Price, Al "David" Hedison, and Patricia Owens. Having learned nothing from that misadventure, Vincent Price comes back in The Return of the Fly, which also stars Brett Halsey as another scientist who ...

Both films are presented in anamorphic widescreen versions with an aspect ratio of 2.35:1. The Fly is in color and 4.0 Surround sound, while the sequel is in black-and-white and Stereo Surround sound. In the absence of any other special features such as talent files or production notes, both films contain their original theatrical trailers. While lacking in the extras, this DVD at least gives viewers a chance to own the Return of the Fly on DVD along with its more famous cousin, since it's uncertain when the sequel would have come out on disc by itself.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble
Get ready to swat your set: Available for the first time on DVD are the four Fly films in two double feature sets, creating a buzz amongst fans of scary movies both old and new. The venerable horror staples The Fly 1958 and Return of the Fly 1959 feature Vincent Price in chilling tales of a scientist who inadvertently mutates into a human fly and must fight to retain his humanity. The remakes -- David Cronenberg's 1986 The Fly and its 1989 sequel The Fly 2, directed by Chris Walas -- are combined on an additional, equally thrilling set. Both DVD double features are presented in anamorphic widescreen and include each film's original theatrical trailer.
