Footloose

Overview

Kevin Bacon stars in the toe tapping 1980s hit Footloose. Presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, this transfer is sub-par with an excessive amount of grain and dirt penetrating the image. While there are some sharp colors and black levels to be found, overall the image of Footloose is far below the work usually put into Parmaount's transfers. The soundtrack is presented in a newly remixed Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound track in English that utilizes both the front and rear speakers whenever the music score ...

The soundtrack is presented in a newly remixed Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound track in English that utilizes both the front and rear speakers whenever the music score of pop soundtrack kicks in. Aside of throwing the Kenny Loggins title track through all of the speakers, this mix is generally front heavy with all aspects of the mix sounding clear and free of any hiss or distortion. Also included on this disc is a Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround mix in English, a Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo mix in French, and English and Spanish subtitles. Alas, as is the case with most recent Paramount DVD titles, this DVD is void of any and all extra features, making it a disappointing bare bones release.

All Movie Guide
In addition to boasting one of the most popular movie soundtracks of all time, Footloose made a star of Kevin Bacon, the rebel with a cause at the center of this infectious celebration of dance that became a cultural phenomenon. Footloose is also one of the earliest movies to be clearly inspired by MTV, with its episodic narrative structure and songs staged as miniature emotional operas. When Bacon's bad boy pours out his angst through dance and aggressive gymnastics in a closed factory, swigging from a beer while blowing out plumes of smoke, all to the tune of "Holding out for a Hero" by Bonnie Tyler, his mythic posturing is made in music video heaven. But there's a lot more than teenage disobedience in Footloose. It's also a sensitive portrait of Midwestern values, which don't clash nearly so much as Bacon's dance proponents or John Lithgow's worried churchgoers think they do. Lithgow's performance is especially complicated and heartfelt; the reluctant villain because he stands between the teens and their desire to cut loose, he really only wants to save them from themselves, having personally experienced tragedy caused by recklessness. Dianne Wiest balances her husband's conscience with her daughter's desire to embrace youth, making for another stand-out performance. Genuinely rousing, if perhaps willfully naïve and formulaic, Footloose is most winning during its dance sequences, the specialty of director/choreographer Herbert Ross. The movie held such lingering appeal in the popular consciousness that it inspired a successful Broadway musical -- almost 15 years after its theatrical release.

    Love this movie!

What is there to say about Footloose except for...IT ROCKS! I just love this movie, me and my friends played the song 'Footloose' and we danced along to it trying to do as good of dance scenes as the actors in Footloose did, like it was possible! We completely failed. Anyways, I LOVE THIS MOVIE and DEFINITELY RECOMMEND IT!

    More adventure

well i like the movie but i think it should have more of an adventure prespective. I think that people would like the movie if it had more of an adventure throughout the movie. I would of rather saw more action when the were trying to get the dance at the end...more conflics though there adventure

    I love it!

I loved Footloose - it's an upbeat, spunky movie with some amazing dancing. Kevin Bacon is so hot - only now, he's 44 with two kids! Kind of depressing to know when watching Footloose :)

    Dance From the Heart

It's a relief to watch a movie with so much passion about dancing. If you are the type of person who loves to dance, then you would appreciate all the passion and energy of the movie.

    GREAT MUSIC MOVIE

This is a very good film from both the story and acting points of view, there are also fantastic songs that add the right ''feel'' to the film.Kevin Bacon has one of his better films and the ''pre-3rd Rock'' John Lithgow is amazing as the stuffy high preacher of the town that needed to ''grow up alittle and get with reality''.The point to this film is well made and is very well played out,but seems very tame to the ''stuff'' that is listened to today. There are also people who think they are doing the RIGHT things, but have the WRONG reasons for doing them and this film points that out. With the Kenny Loggins title track and the rest of the soundtrack as nice additions, this is a really good movie and is worth every minute.A great film for any music fan and any film fan.
