But as Sandoval's fame grew, so did his discomfort with Fidel Castro and Cuba's Communist leadership. For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story is a made-for-cable drama based on the true story of Sandoval's career, his eventual flight to the United States with his family, and the unexpected roadblocks that nearly prevented him from becoming a naturalized American citizen. The biographical drama was produced for the HBO premium cable network and first aired on October 18, 2000.

Outstanding Movie Biopic on Arturo Sandoval

I watched this movie to learn more about the music and the life of Arturo Sandoval. This film was made as a labor of love by Andy Garcia who stars in the title role with guest appearances by Gloria Estefan and Charles S. Dutton who plays the great Dizzy Gillespie, who helped Sandoval and his family emigrate to the United States from Cuba in 1993.

Note that all the music performed in the movie was performed by Sandoval and there is a great interview with Arturo Sandoval included in the DVD as well.

    Enjoy!

    Great!!!

This was an exceptional movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. It captured the essence of the Latin culture and the difficulties encountered in Cuba. The music was incredibly moving...it actually speaks to your heart. I would recommend it.
