The first in John Ford's calvary trilogy and, the one of two that John Wayne played same named character. Rio Grande being the other. Good character development and Henry Fonda plays a very credible Col. Thursday doing George Custer. Covers bigotry and egotism very well. Also it is a good view of life in the west for the calvary, being outnumbered and many times out gunned. As usual it also is a moving brochure for monument valley.

As with all John Ford and John Wayne movies, this movie is a masterpiece. There is a reason Ford obtained four Oscars before the award become to political A must see movie.

I can't believe that this great film is finally availabe on DVD. Without question, it is the best of the Wayne/Ford collaborations. Outstanding story line, and, in true Ford fashion, visually stunning. 'Good Luck, C Troop!"

This a great film with great stars. Ford's other two cavalry films, 'She Wore a Yellow Ribbon' and 'Rio Grande', are available on DVD why not this one?

is (at least in one man's opinion) one of The Duke's greatest movie lines. But it also sets the tone for what is one of the greatest Ford /Wayne westerns of all time. The inane arrogance of Lt. Colonel Thursday has been seldom equaled on screen or better portrayed as it is here by Henry Fonda. FORT APACHE, like THEY DIED WITH THEIR BOOTS ON, isn't a history lesson, and anyone who substituted these events for a text book reading will go down like both films' antagonists. Great entertainment.
