Four Weddings and a Funeral

( 10 )

Overview

The difference between the MGM DVD edition of Four Weddings and a Funeral and this PolyGram release of the same movie is negligible. Neither comes with any meaningful extras and each is fixed with a similar low price tag. While it would be nice to see this winning romantic comedy receive the same "special edition" attention that Notting Hill has garnered on DVD, at least the movie itself is presented well. The widescreen transfer isn't anamorphic but is nevertheless first rate, while the Dolby Digital 2.0 ...

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide
The rare romantic comedy that doesn't falter when it delves into more serious matters, Four Weddings and a Funeral is one of the most successful British films of all time, and for good reason. The movie introduced Hugh Grant's unique brand of bumbling English charm to millions of viewers, and marked Kristin Scott Thomas' first breakthrough hit. Director Mike Newell blends great laughs with unforced, non-manipulative moments of poignancy: the heartfelt recitation of W.H. Auden's "Funeral Blues" is particularly moving. Richard Curtis' screenplay is witty and fresh, bristling with great lines and well-observed details.

    Not too bad...

The story was good, enough for me to buy the DVD, though the unimaginative profanity was a turnoff. If folks must cuss, can't they use a little intelligence in their choice of language?

    Love this movie

This has to be one of the all time classic movies in my mind. I could watch it over and over and never get tired of it.

    The delightful British!

This is a movie about love in itsvarious aspects, as experienced bya group of British friends. Thestory has laughter, sadness, warmth, and moves at an excellent pace. TheDVD was purchased as a gift toreplace the worn-out VHS tape, yes,it's that much of a favorite. Someof the language and a few scenesare R-rated. A picture not to bemissed.

    As You Like It

Hugh Grant and Andie McDowell, who could possibly make a better cast selection for a love story that almost failed to culminate in happiness. Extraordinary look into British life. Great scenery and timing. Very enjoyable. Great cast overall.
