Foxfire

Overview

One of actress Angelina Jolie's early efforts was the drama Foxfire, based on the book by Joyce Carol Oates. The film is presented in its original 2.35:1 widescreen aspect ratio and anamorphically enhanced for 16 x 9 TVs. This is a very fine-looking print that sports solid colors and dark black levels. While a small amount of edge enhancement pops up from time to time, overall this is a rather clean image that should please fans. The soundtrack is presented in Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround in English. Needless to say, this is a very mediocre soundtrack that features little in the way of directional effects or surround sounds. While all of the dialogue, music, and effects are clear of any excessive hiss or distortion, it would have been nice to have seen this film get a much needed 5.1 remix. Also included on this disc are English and Spanish subtitles. The only extra features available on this disc are a few theatrical trailers and a filmography on star Jolie.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide - Andrea LeVasseur
Whereas Joyce Carol Oats' source novel reflected the working-class sensibilities of tough '50s rebels, director Annette Haywood-Carter's film version is a '90s melodrama about pretty suburban victims. This adaptation choice drives the story in a predictable direction, suffering from stereotyped characters and forced dialogue. The supposed female bonding moments quickly fall into exploitation territory as the girls decide to take off their shirts and tattoo their breasts. However, Angelina Jolie is stunning as Legs Sadovsky, stealing the show with her screen presence and introducing the lesbian undertones. All attitude and style, Legs becomes the movie-friendly version of what a tough girl should be. While it is commendable that she helps the other girls fight back against the sexualized violence in the film, the payback plot feels contrived. A story of real unleashed rage this is not, but rather a sleek Hollywood fantasy of pseudo "girl power" with a modern rock soundtrack. Mindless fun for a few action scenes, Foxfire is recommended for fans of Angelina Jolie only.

    captivating, inspiring

It made a lot of sense. And it showed many things thats are happening in the world right now. Not only is Angelina Jolie a good actress in this, but Hedy Burress was too. She reminds me of &quot and not to be selfish&quot me. I'm very artistic and some of those things happened to me too. And Hedy Burress is one of my favorite actress'/voice actress'. Foxfire is the most inspirational movie Ive seen so far. ^_^

    Cable Version Sucks

Ok. i was 12 when i first watched this movie. i thought it was very incomplete because i saw it on cable and alot of it was ''bleeped'' out. but about 3 months ago rented it from blockbuster, and i was like ''woah !!'' i thought it was so good. anyway, my point is, if u ever watch it on cable, rent the movie afterward, cuz it's a hell-of-alot better. !!!!!!!

all star cast: leading lady a.jolie

i found foxfire to be an amazing movie with an even better cast. leading lady angelina jolie plays the part of legs. a loner and drifter who comes into town and creates a tie that bonds 4 strangers together for life. legs' firey attitude and justifiable ways are soon embraced by the girls who discover standing up for yourself and others is a truly amazing thing.

    Girls Who Run With Foxes

This movie was real, deep and straight from the heart. It was about a group of girls who bond under the leadership of one special loner. A high school teacher is sexually harassing certain high school girls. When a new girl comes into town and suggests they ban together and do something about it, the action begins. The girls are expelled and begin residing in an abandoned house in the woods. When one of the girls gets sick and needs money from her father to pay for rehab, Legs(the ringleader) takes him hostage when he refuses. She's put in jail and it's all out war to get her back. I give this movie four out of five stars because I loved every minute of it and the characters were great. If they were real-life people, I'd definitely want to hang with them!
