Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
Like the workaholic Doozers who co-populate Fraggle Rock with the more fun-loving Fraggles, this collection of episodes from Jim Henson's fondly remembered 1983 HBO series really gets the job done. Overcoming fears, doing your duty, and not letting your imagination get the best of you are invaluable lessons cleverly dramatized in "Catch a Tail by the Tiger" and "Believe It or Not." In the first story, Gobo faces the prospect of venturing from Fraggle Rock into the outside world to find his traveling uncle Matt, whose postcards chronicling his adventures have mysteriously stopped coming. Although he puts on a brave front, Gobo is compelled to confess that he really feels scared. His friends reassure him that sharing his feelings is a special kind of bravery. In the second story, "a perfect day for adventure" includes an encounter with a fanciful creature that can become whatever anyone believes he is. Unfortunately, Ma Gorg believes he is a monster, and an imagination makeover is required ("It's all up here," the characters reaffirm to each other). More than two decades later, Fraggle still rocks, as does this DVD, which includes a third episode, "All Work and All Play," a hidden bonus episode, and sing-along "Fraggle-oke."
