Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
Unavailable for years, even on VHS, Jim Henson's 1983 HBO series Fraggle Rock is imaginative, inventive, and poised for rediscovery in this three-episode DVD collection. Fraggle Rock is a Tolkien-inspired underground world inhabited by fun-loving Fraggles, work-obsessed Doozers, and bullying Gorgs. The first episode sets the elaborate stage, as intrepid Fraggle Uncle Matt boldly goes where no Fraggle has gone before -- the hole in Doc's workshop wall that leads to the mythical "outer space." Exploring this strange new world, Matt writes down his observations on postcards that he mails to his cautious nephew, Gobo. With a little help from his Fraggle friends, Gobo works up the courage to retrieve the postcards from the oblivious Doc and his lovable dog, Sprocket. Matt's discoveries about our world above ground invariably tie in to Gobo and company's adventures in subterranean Fraggle Rock. In the second episode, Matt's encounters with kites and balloons offer a clever lesson in freedom that inspires Gobo when he and others are taken captive by the Gorgs. The songs that enhance each episode are a highlight (some of the most memorable in the series are included in a bonus feature, "Fraggle Songs"). The stories are captivating, the characters delightful, and the clever wordplay a treat. And so is Fraggle Rock, which awaits exploration by a new generation. Just as the Fraggles are said to be "the very pinnacle of civilization and culture," so is Fraggle Rock the very pinnacle of children's programming. Hip, hip, hip, hooray!

    this fraggle rocks

I remember watching this as a kid and even to this day walk around singing the theme song. I bought this DVD hoping that I would still have the same feeling as watching it at a younger age, and I did. I laughed and was swept away with the characters just as much. While babysitting my nephew we sat down and watched it together. After he begged me to buy it (it didn't really take much pushing) I purchased the first season on DVD and we watch it on a regular basis, proving that this show was and still is a highly entertaining show for all ages.

    FINALLY FRAGGLES!

I am so happy to have this DVD! I grew up with the show and really miss the songs, lessons, and personality of the creatures. Finally, I can have them in my own home again! It was such a treat to watch these 3 early episodes which, surprisingly, I hadn't seen before. After that, I couldn't stop, and watched the whole long feature about Fraggle songs. Had to go out and buy the second DVD, too, which has more episodes, including a hidden one after the Trivia section. Can't wait for more! Thank you thank you for Fraggle Rock! Whoopie!!!
