Freddy Got Fingered

( 9 )

Overview

Gross-out king of comedy Tom Green made his directing debut with Freddy Got Fingered, a movie that dares to go to the edge -- and then over it. Fox has done a very nice job on this title, making sure that the 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer is crisp and clean. Featuring strong, bold black levels and bright colors, Freddy Got Fingered's picture looks very nice. Audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and, while not overly aggressive, this track still is able to rock your sound system using ...

Audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and, while not overly aggressive, this track still is able to rock your sound system using directional effects during musical sequences. Dialogue, effects, and music are all clear and concise, with no distortion present. Also included on this disc is a Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround track in English, as well as English and Spanish subtitles. Freddy Got Fingered points the finger at many well-produced extra features, including a subdued (yet nevertheless odd) feature-length commentary track by director/star/co-writer Tom Green. Complementing that track are screen-specific commentary tracks by actors Rip Torn, Harland Williams, and Marisa Coughlan, all of whom add some bizarre and interesting stories to the proceedings. Also included on this disc are deleted scenes featuring optional commentary by Tom Green, a world premiere audience participation track (letting the viewer hear the audience's response to the disgusting gags), an MTV "making of" movie special, TV spots, and a theatrical trailer. Finally there is a shorter, more "promotional" featurette on Freddy Got Fingered, cast and crew information, as well as a PG-rated version of the film that edits out all the obscene parts (rendering it only three minutes long). Whether you're a fan or foe of Tom Green's comedic antics, the fact remains that this is a very well-produced DVD.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble
Bad taste is raised to an art in Tom Green's outrageous directorial debut, Freddy Got Fingered. Green's MTV persona gets a suitable big-screen treatment here, as he plays an aspiring cartoon animator who leaves the nest and heads to LA to seek fame and fortune. Freddy Got Fingered is an all-out assault on sentimental movie clichés, as Green skateboards through the film like a post-modern Marx brother with a goatee, making a hash of all attempts at normal human interaction along the way. Precious little is sacred here: even touchy subjects like incest are fair game for Green's literally blood-and-guts wit. Green holds the movie together, though, by providing himself with a couple of nicely off-beat foils: his love interest, a wheelchair-bound amateur rocket scientist with an apparently insatiable kinky appetite Marisa Coughlan, and his irascible father, played bigger than life by the incomparable Rip Torn. Torn plunges into the chaos without apparent reservations, gleefully bellowing and fuming and, yes, even dropping his trousers. Let the squeamish beware: Freddy Got Fingered has enough gross, disgusting, and shocking material for a dozen Farrelly brothers films, all played utterly over the top and exceedingly R-rated. The Fox DVD, however, provides a 3-minute-long PG version, as well as a commentary track by Green, deleted scenes, the half-hour-long MTV Freddy Got Fingered Movie Special, and a laugh track recorded at the film's world premiere.
All Movie Guide - Perry Seibert
Freddy Got Fingered is in no way a conventionally good film. Nearly unanimous bad reviews found that it was not conventionally well-directed, written, shot, or acted. While this makes the film off-putting for many, it does feel like the movie Tom Green intended to make. He wants to throw off convention. There are many disturbing images in the film, but they seem to be there for a reason that goes beyond shock value. The conflict between Gord and his father is presented at an extremely Freudian level; metaphorically and literally, Gord must cut the cord that keeps him attached to his parents. The images in the film support this subtext, while simultaneously turning one's stomach. There is a remarkably disturbing scene in which Gord delivers a baby. It is one of the bloodiest births ever put on film. This makes sense thematically, as Gord himself needs to be reborn; removing himself from the remarkably dysfunctional relationship he shares with his father will be as difficult as the birth. While most gross-out films are simply attempting to shock the audience for the sake of shock, Freddy Got Fingered seems to have something bigger on its mind. Even for a gross-out picture, Freddy Got Fingered is unconventional.

    Not For Kids

Plenty of langauge, violence, and yes, Tom Green playing with a horses tallywacker(it's an appropriate word). It's funny, crude, and down right nasty. Tom Green, what have you done? Is it worth seeing? It depeneds on how you feel about movies with adult humor.

One star because there was no zero option.

The worst movie, not only in recent history, but in all of movie history! I like to Tom Green Show as much as the next person, but to have him practically uncut is the biggest mistake in one could make. Needless to say the ZachFactor is negative.
