Friday the 13th, Part IIIDirector: Steve Miner
Immediately after his mysterious escape at the end of Friday the 13th, Pt. 2, Jason Vorhees (Richard Brooker, the third of many actors to fill the role) kills a hardscrabble store owner and his nagging wife before heading back to Crystal Lake, this time to terrify rich girl Chris (Dana Kimmell) and her band of summer-cottage guests. Chris, it seems, is haunted by an earlier encounter with Jason, and her romantic entanglements with local boy Rick (Paul Kratka) do little to ease her nightmares. Meanwhile, the gruesome antics of Shelly (Larry Zerner), a chubby practical joker who just wants to be loved (and get laid), leads to an escalating case of the boy who cried wolf. When he's not incurring the wrath of leather-clad motorcyclists, he's annoying the other guests with his mock mutilations. Soon, stage blood turns to real as guests and bikers alike fall prey to the killer lurking in the barn out back.

This is the film that Jason Voorhees becomes the icon, as he dons the hockey mask for the first time. This of course, is not the "new dimension" of horror, but rather that the film is 3-D. Considering the time period, the sight gags can be a little less than the spectacular effects they've come to pull off over the years. You can see wires at points. You are aware of the somewhat less than thought out set-up of scenes, but the film is truly a gem of 80s 3-D slasher nostalgia. There is a good reason this film is in my collection.
This is personally my second favorite of the Friday the 13th movies. It's got awesomely goofy opening credits and is the most blatantly 80's of the series. It was 3D back when that meant silly things popping out of the screen at you, like the awning of a convenience store. The story is pretty good. It's set right after Part 2 - the opening has the classic 'they're carting the previous final girl off in an ambulance while she laughs madly" opener that a lot of Friday the 13th movies wound up using. Jason is not dead as it turns out. He's headed back to town to terrorize the locals before following another group of campers back out into the woods. This final girl also has a creepy backstory involving Jason that plays out later in the movie. She is back at her folks cabin with her buddies to get over her lifelong fear of the place. She has very bad timing. This is also one of the first Friday the 13th movies where bad guys show up to get killed by Jason before he starts in on the heroes. In this case, a punk rock biker gang who hassles the kids at that convenience store and then follows them back to the cabin. This is by far not the scariest of the Friday the 13th movies, but it sure is fun to watch.
Being 2 years old when it originally came out i have never seen it in 3d but heared how fun it was I hope the dvd has atleast dect 3d and also nice 5.1 for a change sick of that flat mono that fgoes for all the finlms that r in mono (12345) the ones in ultra stereo (78) atleast new line gave us 5.1 i always wondered why only part 7 got 5.1 cause in my opinon its one of the weakest (personally i think 8 is the worse I like 5 over 8 cause atleast its funny anyways im babbling but I cant wait for these wonderful new dvds of my fav movie series I just hope the new movie does well so we can see more awesome dvd in the future
best movie i have ever seen in my entire life.classic horror movie.worth the time.
This has to be my only favorite out of the other friday the 13th films maybe Jason X. This one is entertaining but can't remember if this was the one where he wore that hockey mask or if he had the machete but I think this one for his weapon he has some ax. Alright movie though.
The first in the series... as far as slasher pic goes... not bad... suspense is pretty good, but the film's notorious death sequences/Betsy Palmer's nut-case character and Harry Manfredini's excellent score are the show-stoppers... Take it or leave it... it is a classic...
wow the Friday the 13th part 3 in 3d the movie is spooky but thats what i like about it Jason the killer with that mask creeps everybody out even me this is cool movie even around halloween its one of the best horrier films to sit down and watch
This was when jason found the mask which is cool since that is his trademark. Good if you're a fan but otherwise, you wont like it
