Friday the 13th, Part VI: Jason Lives

( 5 )

Overview

The hockey-masked killer Jason Voorhees once again rises from the dead to stalk camp counselors in Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, the sixth entry in the popular horror series. Paramount has done a very nice job making this 1.85:1 transfer look clean and new. Unlike previous sequels, Jason Lives is almost free of any dirt or grain that marred past transfers. The colors (predominantly blues and reds) look very bright, with only a slight amount of edge enhancement spotted. Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives...

The colors (predominantly blues and reds) look very bright, with only a slight amount of edge enhancement spotted. Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives is the first film of the series to sport a Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround track, and to say the least, this is miles above the previous movies. Although the directional effects are not always perfect, this track is very well done overall and should ultimately please fans. Dialogue, music, and effects are all mixed evenly, without any distortion. Also available on this disc are English subtitles. Keeping on par with the first five films, the only supplemental feature is an original teaser trailer presented in a widescreen format. With video and audio being very good, this is easily a worthy purchase for any fans of this bloody series.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide - Brian J. Dillard
In their quest to pepper this horror sequel with self-reflexive humor, fright-flick in-jokes, and obscure references, the producers of Friday the 13th, Part VI: Jason Lives don't eliminate the tedium of a tired formula so much as distract their audience from the pointlessness of their enterprise. It's possible to make it all the way to the final reel of this retread without paying too much attention to the mechanics of plot or character. From the amusingly exaggerated titles sequence to the Alice Cooper theme song, this film celebrates the ubiquity and instant familiarity of its source material. The result is a deeply cynical exercise, but one that's far more enjoyable than the installments that bookend it. True, the once-interesting Tommy Jarvis -- now two actors past his best incarnation (as played by Corey Feldman) -- has become an interchangeable teen protagonist. But that's because the filmmakers wisely realize that any further attempts at psychological acuity would distract from the gleeful mayhem at hand. Later installments, particularly the leaden seventh and 11th entries, would attempt to wrest pathos and drama from the material. But Friday the 13th, Part VI: Jason Lives represents the first flowering of the parodic impulse that would power the superior ninth and tenth episodes in the franchise.

    Jason Lives

    Jason Lives

This is when Jason is resurrected. From this one forward Jason is the undead, an indestructable killing machine. In the beginning Jason awakens in his own grave, stronger than ever. Heading straight for the camp he slaughters any Teen or Adult he encounters.
The action, gore & terror make this one of Jason's best.

    Jason lives again!

I'll say this is one of Jason's best movie! Part 2, 3, and 4 were usually had no plot. Part 5 was cheap, but it did have nice plot. For this one, the movie is funny and has a great plot line this time. Movie is great. Rent it or buy.

    best, of the best

well, i don't own the movie but my friend down the street let borrow it on friday night. the first part of the movie is verry creepy,(the sky is dark, thunder, dark forest)and so on. but there a lot of gore which i also recommend, like a guy gets folded in half with jasons bare hands and when they dig up jason, jason punch's a guy & his hand go's right throught him and you can see he's heart in jasons hand.jason also seems to be more angry and powerful in this movie like a dude breaks a metal shovel over jason's head which don't seem to bother him or when jason gets shoot 6 time with a 357 mag. the 3 more time with a 12-gauge shotgun, then 3 more 357 blast the a shot in the eye. and jason is steel walking, there 50% action in the movie and 100% gore so i say its a damn good friday the 13th movie !!!!!

    Friday the 13th 6

Now this one was alright and intersting as to how the same character but played by someone else can pull it off. Creative and FINALLY of how at the end Tommy got Jason but he will return anyway so it was a complete waste of time but still entertaining for me though.
