Barnes & Noble - Christina Urban
This DVD collection of Futurama episodes, loosely based on the theme Robot Maniac Fun, rips a page from The Simpsons' playbook, offering newbies and casual fans an attractive option to full-season sets. Everything here revolves around robots, since the 'bot Bender (voiced by John DiMaggio) is in all four episodes, one from each of the show’s four seasons. In "Anthology of Interest I," the Professor (Billy West) allows the crew to see what would happen in various situations, including a 500-foot-tall Bender, using his "What-If" machine. "Roswell That Ends Well" -- the 2002 Emmy winner for Outstanding Animated Program -- finds Fry (also West) becoming his own grandpa, after putting the moves on his grandma. "The Sting" finds the crew on a mission to gather honey from killer space bees, which ends badly after Bender insults the queen. And in the best episode of the release, "Hell Is Other Robots," Bender is invited to a "jack-on" party and gets addicted to electricity. To save his soul he joins the Temple of Robotology, but he easily succumbs to his old ways during a trip to Atlantic City and is sent to Robot Hell. There he is tormented by the musical stylings of the Robot Devil (the fantastic voice of Homer Simpson himself, Dan Castellaneta). Eventually, Fry and Neela (Katey Sagal) rescue Bender, and Neela muses, "Who would have thought Hell would really exist, and that it would be in New Jersey?" Each episode opens with a short audio introduction, and "Hell Is Other Robots" offers an optional commentary track.
