Reaching for TV sci-fi's final frontier, Andromeda both honors and rides in the wake of franchise Star Trek -- as evidenced by Gene Roddenberry's name above the title. The show follows the wandering Andromeda Ascendant, a colossal, hyper-advanced spaceship that is awakened, Rip Van Winkle-like, from a deep freeze only to discover that the Systems Commonwealth that commissioned it has long since gone belly-up. Once used for diplomatic and humanitarian missions, the ship (personified in hologram by Lexa Doig) and its strong-chinned captain, Dylan Hunt (Kevin Sorbo), now go where no one dares, throughout the universe, boldly attempting to rebuild the Commonwealth amid warring alien races. This collection of first-season episodes includes:
  • "Under the Night" -- In the series premiere, Capt. Hunt and the Andromeda are rescued by the Eureka Maru, an opportunistic salvage ship, after being trapped in a black hole for 300 years.
  • "An Affirming Flame" -- Hunt and the crew of the Eureka Maru agree to join forces and become one team aboard the Andromeda as they set forth on his mission to restore the Systems Commonwealth.
  • "To Loose the Faithful Lighting" -- Hunt inadvertently gives a group of child warriors power to destroy a solar system.
  • "D Minus Zero" -- Beka (Lisa Ryder) and Tyr (Keith Hamilton Cobb) square off against Hunt for leadership of Andromeda during a dangerous face-off with an unknown enemy.
  • "Double Helix " -- Hunt must save the Andromeda from the genetically altered Nietzcheans, who attempt to persuade Tyr to help them destroy the ship and rebuild his life with a wife to carry on his lineage.
