The British mystery series George Gently stars Martin Shaw as the title character -- a slightly cantankerous, widowed London detective solving cases in mid-1960s Northumberland, England against the backdrop of the first hints of social change. An iron-willed character who relies on his wits and seldom questions his own judgment, Gently scarcely needs assist, but nevertheless gets partnered up with John Bacchus (Lee Ingleby), a caustic young police sergeant. This set contains both mysteries from the third series of the program, Goodbye China and Gently Upside Down.

Just loved it... crime solving in the 60's at it's best!  Very well done, great scenery, well written script... one of my 'go-to' dvd's.
