Overview

As developed and co-written by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, the prime-time situation comedy Get Smart succeeded at spoofing more straight-laced spy franchises such as the James Bond series. As such, the program earned enormous popularity following its debut in mid-September 1965, and ran for a respectable five seasons, its final original episode airing in May 1970. Don Adams starred as the hopelessly inept Maxwell Smart, AKA Agent 86, employee of the U.S. intelligence agency C.O.N.T.R.O.L., and one devoted to thwarting global takeover attempts by the evil K.A.O.S. Assisting Max was his sexy partner, Agent 99 (Barbara Feldon), who eventually became his wife and the mother of his children. Season Three features such highlights as Max and 99 facing down the League of Impostors, and experiencing the nuttiness of hippiedom in The Groovy Guru; it also boasts guest appearances from stars including Don Rickles, Johnny Carson, Carol Burnett and many others. Season Four's highlight is the marriage of Max and 99 following Max's escape from diabolical Dr. Madre; it also includes Max and 99's escape from a New Jersey-based K.A.O.S. prisoner of war camp. This box set features all 26 episodes from Season Three (1967-8) and all 26 episodes from Season Four (1968-9) as they originally aired on NBC.
