Overview

When Golobulus (Burgess Meredith) and Cobra plot to eliminate mankind and repopulate the world with a vicious race of ancient reptilians, it's up to Duke and company to prevent them from acquiring the technology that will enable them to do so in this feature-length adventure spun from the 1980s cartoon series. Centuries after being driven underground during the ice age, the Cobralas are back, and ready to reclaim the planet. They've developed a plant with spores that possess the power to drain humans of their life force, but the only way they can get the spores to mature is by using the Broadcast Energy Emitter -- a revolutionary device with the capability to provide enough energy for the entire planet. As Duke sinks into a deep coma following a fierce fight on the battlefield, Lt. Falcon (Don Johnson) rises to the challenge of leading the Joe team on their most important mission to date.

You get to see two half-brother care about each other. You get to see all of the G.I.Joe and all of the Cabras too. Both side are fighting for the world but who will win? You need to get this moive to find out.

I still remember telling my dad to drive as fast as he can so I can see this movie on TV. Saturday, 6 PM, on WPIX channel 11 in New York. Made it by one minute. And man, was it great! From the opening action sequence to the inspiring movie theme, this one was done right! And how! The animation was just great! I mean, it rivals Jap-anime in terms of movement, shadows, and special effects! And it definitely beats in terms of physiological realism. No big eyes, no small triangular noses, no mis-proportioned parts. Just the best danged example of top American animation. And the storyline actually flowed. Compared to the other Marvel-Sunbow productions movie, Transformers: The Movie, I'll say that the storyline and plot in G.I. Joe one flows more smoothly. Don't get me wrong, I still like Transformers. But I think the constant re-writing suffered to the point that each scene was written by a different writer and another writer was in charge of stitching them together. And only achieving so-so results. Still a fave tho. Two complaints, tho, about G.I. Joe: The Movie - I wish they hadn't use such a sci-fi storyline, and that they killed off Duke. Nothing against Duke, but I think the story would have been so improved.

I think this is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen. It appeals to everyone. It is done in cartoon fashion for the younger viewers, but it also has good fight scenes for more mature viewers. This movie show the Joes and The Cobras at their best. I suggest you go and see this movie right now.

Excellent movie. It's fun watching it and thinking about all the GI Joe action figures you had back in the day ('I had him, him, him, ohhhh, forgot about him'). Two minor gripes. Whoever came up with the Cobra battlecry, 'COBRA-LALALALALALALALA!!' should be locked up for a very long time. Also, do they Joes REALLY have to say 'Yo Joe!' after every trivial task?. I guess I forgot how cheesy the 80's really were. Great movie though.

This movie is great. I have the original VHS version released in '86 and its simply is the best animated movie I have ever seen.
