    I Also Recommend:

    This is an AMAZING movie!!!!

This is a really awesome true story about a black docter named Ben Carson. He grew up with a mother who could barely read, and he didn;t have a dad, so his life wasn't easy. But he overcame his struggles to become the world's greatest neurosurgeon. The miracles he performed had never been done by any other doctors; he was smart, kind, and really cared about his patients. I think poeple who are looking for a career in medicine would really enjoy this movie, especially if their considering being a neurosurgeon! I would reccommmend this movie to anyone who is looing for something exiting, and especially anyone who is considering a medicine career. I would not reccommmend this for little kids though; some of the surgery scenes can be a bit grutesque. If you don't like blood, you shouldn't watch this, but if u can tolerate it, GO FOR IT!!! This movie was great!!!

“ If you look at those obstacles as a containing fence, they become your excuse for failure. If you view them as a hurdle, each one as a strategy for the next, you become successful.” ~ Dr Ben Carson.
The movie opened with a challenging case of a pair of twins who were conjoined in the head. Dr Ben Carson was approached by the hopeful parents to perform the surgery so that the twins could life separate but normal lives. There has been no track record of a successful cranium separation and all have resulted in deaths. With no examples to refer to, he referred back to his own life – a life that seemed hopeless at the beginning rose to the pinnacle of the toughest profession in the world – a brain surgeon. Directed by Thomas Carter, a director whose genre of production lies in stories of struggles in youth and how society and school boosts their morale. This movie is not the typical rags to riches story, rather one that uniquely showcase the harsh realities of the life of an African American boy in the 1960s and how education and supportive family had were fundamental in his success.
The title of the movie is a true reflection of how Dr Ben Carson used his hands. As a child with social disadvantages, Carson was an unpopular who grappled in both school and identity. Though he performed well in school, he could not control his anger as a teenager and used his hands in violent acts. He pleaded for help from God and his hands turned into a gift – a gentle pair of tool to perform life threatening surgeries on the intellectual organ of a child, the brain.
The movie refused to give the viewers the illusion that the life of Dr Ben Carson as a Chief of Paediatric Surgery at John Hopkins Hospital is all well. Every surgery is life threatening and viewers will be kept at the edge of their seats as intricate details of the brain surgeries were revealed. Every second could mean life or death and the director cleverly composed 22.5 hour of actual surgery time to 15 minutes without shortchanging viewers of the intense experience.
I was moved to tears each time Carson’s mother spoke. Even when she disciplines, her voice was assuring and gentle. Never to condemn, always to lift up her despondent children. The way she responded to her children is exemplary for modern day parents who are driven by how the society dictates the value and performance of our children. Suitable for family of all ages and best if watched together.
